Z tube's real impact?

I've been following various threads about intake tubes. Let's say you have a stock engine, and the only change you make is replacing the G35 tube with a Z tube. Other than an audible change due to the Z tube's absence of baffling, would there be any performance or other improvement? I guess in theory it would direct more air into the intake because there's no baffling, but I was wondering if anyone on the forum knew for certain. Thanks.

Yes, I know for certain. My first mod was a "Z" tube along with a K&N DropIn which I since replaced with a POP-Charger. With the "Z" tube and K&N, I did feel and hear a difference. It's a very worth while mod, if you don't mind the extra noise.

Ok, so we have a vote saying the Z tube and K&N combination actually makes a difference.

How about just the Z tube itself?

I think maybe he wants some hard numbers. How about stock dyno versus Z-tube dyno?

G owners over on freshalloy and my350z have dyno'd just the z-tube. Those dyno's have shown approx. 5 hp gain.

Re: Z tube's real impact?

I just put in a z-tube on my completely stock engine. No difference what so ever in performance gains (2-5 hp wouldn't be noticeable), but the sound is veryyyy nice.

I had the K&N panel filter prior to the z-tube. Can't say I noticed any difference other than the sound after I put the tube on.

Re: Z tube's real impact?

My G only has the Z-tube mod on it. (no filter mod yet)
I did notice a difference but nothin HUGE. A bit better on take off and just kick when I floor it.

Definately more of an aggresive sound, which I very much like.
Money well spent in my opinion.

Re: Z tube's real impact?

i just got my z tube in yesterday
i did notice a sound difference which is nice
i havent drivin it yet though but i doubt there will be much of a difference. if there are any hp gains your prolly not goin to feel them beacuse they will be small.

lowrider -
Right now I am planning to do the z tube and drop in K/N so it is nice to hear that it has some benefit. You said you have now switched to the pop-charger. What difference did that make, if any??

Re: Z tube's real impact?

The Z-tube lubricates the telekinetic throttle bearing, essentially quadrupling the nitrogen to kryptonite ratio. This is good for .000001 h.p. to the clear bra.

In all seriousness, the gains are obviously minimal, but it sounds cool and a s.o.t.p. difference can definitely be felt (especially in conjunction with the pop-charger)

Re: Z tube's real impact?

Can this part be purchased at the local Nissan dealership? If so which department do I go to to order it?

Parts at any Nissan dealership, but I believe it can be had for less money at some of the aftermarket suppliers like Performance Nissan Parts, etc.
