Any issues with powdercoating the top half of the plenum?

got my 06 6MT about 2 weeks ago. Ditched the engine cover on the second day. 5/16 spacer is coming soon and i figured I would get the lid powdercoated while it was off.

Any reason that would be a bad idea? What is a reasonable price for getting that done?

Polishing is a much better option since it doesnt trap heat in. If you are interested, I have a brand new polished plenum ready to install right here in Socal.

Powdercoating Plenum......?

Why powdercoat when polishing looks soooooo much better. If you don't
want the polished plenum just get a CF Z engine cover and save your $!
Riverside Infiniti always has them available at a reasonable price....

I want some color and i can't imagine a layer of powdercoat would trap more heat than an engine cover

the heat difference is going to be minimal if anything get it jet coated in what color you want then it will reduce heat transfered to the metal

OK - so #1 - polishing and powder coating will both seal the aluminum pores and promote increased heat in the plenum. If your going to power coat it, you'll at least want to sand out imperfections and likely polish the unit anyway - unless you don't want the powder coat to shine at all.

If you don't sand it - it will look like crap - you will see all of the casting imperfection and pores, etc. So - if you want it to be colored, but dull, then sand it down and wet sand it, just like you would a car for paint. If you want it even more perfect - buy SXEXSX's plenum and then have it coated. his work is THE BEST I have ever seen on these.

PC is not going to be a detriment in heat. I am very **** about thermal management on my intake... PC is a good option (IMO) you want to lightly polish it first or you will have little specs from the cast... if you go with a dark color it won’t be noticeable, light will. here's pic of mine, black chrome PC (and no, heat is NOT an issue). BTW, this is an old pic, FWIT the TB has been painted same color as z-tube and cover, etc, and the plenum spacer has been PC same color as plenum and TBS (not in pic) has been PC black chrome... I guess I need new pics...

Mine is powdercoated gold. I had my Vortech supercharger bracket and air diversional panel all coated at the same time. It cost me about $175 for all 3 pieces, and the guy would have coated any other little brackets or pieces at no extra charge. I did sand down all the rough castings before getting it powdercoated though, to make sure it wasn't too textured looking. I'm very happy with the look.
