exhaust with a sc

with a sc i heard it is better to use an exhaust like the stock one we have such as the magnaflow other than true duals. i was wondering if this was true.

No, flow is good. Some exhausts like the Stillen (roots style) need some backpressure to make boost but the centrifugal ones like the Vortech love more flow.

OK - so lets be correct in what we write here.

NO car NEEDS backpressure to run better or properly. Lack of flow gives you more bottom end versus free flowing giving you the advantage at top end.

With that said - by obvious nature, turbo's introduce exhaust restriction, which is why larger is better for turbo's - typically 3" and in wild builds, even larger. The better the flow, the faster the turbine spins which equals more boost and power.

For SC's, generally, the same is true as far as performance is concerned, however there is no exhaust restriction, so more than a 2 1/2" system in not much needed, unless again, your pretty well built and going for some serious HP.

There are many benefits of single versus true dual exhaust systems and vice-versa. When it comes down to it, a 2 1/2" true dual, will flow just about the same as a single 3". Whether it's appropriate for your setup, and desires, is another story. The sound and flow characteristics will be far more tunable in a true dual system - and that is the major advantage. For single systems, it's mostly a weight savings benefit and possibly look for a single exit style as well.

There are no exhausts like the stock one - other than the stock one. If you are referring to a single exhaust with dual exist...well that answer is already above.

Now - the boost desire versus the HP desire. If a system is highly efficient. Meaning the intake and exhaust and intake manifold etc., then you will likely have less boost and more HP. This is truly the goal - as less boost is much safer to run - and if you can get the power with less boost, then your really getting some strong, long lasting benefit of power adding.

Another item - when going FI - SC especially, you will have a tremendous increase in bottom end power, so the minimal loss for a larger exhaust will not be noticeable, as you'll have more power down low to begin with.

OK - so don't buy exhaust twice. Do it right the first time, you'll save money in the end. I would go with a true dual 2 1/2" - and you're set for pretty much any power level up to about ~440hp - no matter how you change things/change pulleys, etc.

HFC's are also a great choice - or resonated testpipes. If you really want to go with a single/dual outlet - go at least 2 1/2" - may 2 3/4 or 3" for better results long term.

apparently that JIC single exhaust on a Vortech made over 450 hp. I'd look into that one for sure.

A good choice - as well as Stillen, Fast Intentions, HKS, Borla, etc.

You cna always compare some of teh 3" turbo system exhausts.

It'll become a form and sound quality item, once you go for 2 1/2" and up - dual or not.

I could not agree more.

I'm having a custom dual 3" made for me next month but it is only because I'm going for over 500whp. My dual 2.25" borla made over 400whp on 8psi.
