helix test pipes
helix test pipes
Anyone else tried out these pipes? I put them on the other day and there was a definite power increase but it seems to make a funny noise when I let off the throttle and when I floor it. It also made the cel come on when they said that it would not. Anybody else have this problem with these pipes.
Re: helix test pipes
did you check to make sure the sensors (both) are plugged in firmly?? this would trigger the CEL
the helix pipes claim they do NOT cause the CEL to come on (due to the bungs for the O2 sensors)
have a look

Re: helix test pipes
i havent done them yet, but have purchased them (waiting for the car to arrive from port still!!lol)
i am just researching all the mods i have plannned on this exhaust setup, and found your dilema to be of personal concern as well....
i am wondering if one of your sensors is loose (thus making noises when on decel/accel, etc) and throwing the CEL on...
the dealer should be able to pull the code for you, but it ainty exactly cheap.... (depending on your relationship w/ your dealer)

gixx-
i am finding this out (give it a try??)

I just did the install myself and I had the CEL come on and I just disconnected the negative lead from the battery to reset the ECU(Just a couple of seconds). That seemed to reset the fuel maps for the freer flowing exhaust

Did you replace all of the gaskets with new ones? if you did not replace the gaskets for the cats and for the O2 sensor that could be the reason it is flipping the check enigne light.
Re: helix test pipes
I posted a similar thread about these pipes on another forum and got no response. My Lightning has 4 02 sensors two before and two after the cats. I gutted my highflow cats when they started to rattle (one had performed a self enema and was empty). I hooked everything back up and it worked fine and did not throw a CEL.
Also, here in Houston we have mobile entrance ramp "exhaust sniffers" and if you go through one and fail you get a letter requiring you to fix the problem. I have gone through them many times and no letter yet.
Removing the cats, especially the stock cats will remove your major sorce of backpressure in the exhaust system and give you major improvements. Replacing other items in the exhaust system and not replacing or removing the cats will produce minimal gains.
