JWT Pop charger/Z Tube 1st impressions
Ordered the referenced from EverythingG for $200 give or take on the bottom. Received product with what can loosely be called instructions but not really. Thank goodness for this board's DIY. The pictures were right on the money and I completed the install in 1.5. I have amateur skills and was able to successfully compete with no missing parts, although I did break the plastic tab on the stock filter housing trying to get the MAF harness unattached.
I did not do an ECU reset. I started her up, downed the sunroof, turned off the air and noticed a very very slighty whistle. For those of you worried about sound, it was insignificant. FYI, I'm a 36 yo living in a suburbia neighborhood and I do care about waking neighbors up. The whistle was nothing to worry about. In fact, it only whistles sometimes, when you hit the throttle just right.
I found the nearest exit ramp and floored it. Yes, there was an extremely addictive rumble/growl that made me feel like I was in a finely tuned 72 Corvette. Nice. I felt like I was opening up the other two barrells on a quadra jet carb. But honestly, it felt like I LOST acceleration. Maybe due to higher expectations.
I put her in manual mode (I have an auto), and drove a few minutes and WOW!!! This is like crack. Within the first few minutes it became noticeably stronger, more sensitive, and more growly.
Just for kicks I came home and performed the throttle reset of the ECU. Took her out again and did not notice anything different. Then performed the "fuse out and crank" ECU reset, repeated (I was just looking for reasons to take her back out). Again, no difference. In my mind, I've disproved my null and the ECU reset will just give you something to do when you're bored and cause you to have to re-remember what all your radio stations were. Maybe if I reset it my first run would have been more satisfying, but I think I can wait a few minutes for the ECU to catch up. By the way, I noticed no difference in shift points or "smoothness" of shifting. My ride has 990 miles on her.
For those of you that have been considering this mod, it's a nice bang for $200 for sound alone. I'll be driving in manumatic just so I can keep her around the 3500-5000 mark more often because it is a very sweet, low, aggresive rumble.
R/T cats are next, and maybe the Stillen true dual at the same time, we'll see. Air in, air out. Balance, harmony, Yin Yang. Thanks to Neff and Eagle for reinforcing this concept.

That's what I was thinking. Air in, air out...the HP/TQ increase (or decrease for that matter) is a function of combinations in the front and the back, not an additive benefit of either individually. Back pressure, turbulence, laminar...blah blah blah, it will all cause the curves to vary. R/T cats are next...I can't wait!

The hook has been set. We've caught another -fish Eagle1. Today at Z-Fest, I was the last car of 8 G35's and I was asked to go to the head of the line to lead the way from the meeting point to Z-Fest. I floored the G in 1st and took it up to redline, passing all of the other G's. The sound of the RT Cats, Z-Tube, P/C, and Crawford got more than a few compliments from the other 7 guys. Infact, there is one board member who was going home to buy the Crawford based on the sound alone. (Boy he's gonna surprised when he feels the power gain )
The Crawford V5 is the best bang for the buck and I strongly recommend this mod BEFORE any exhaust. -Fish, you're free to do what you want with your money, but if you REALLY want to feel the torque/hp increase DRASTICALLY, this mod is for you...
Now all you need to do is buy some grounding wires and reset the ECU everytime before you take off and you'll get another 47rwhp.

Z-Tube | JWT Pop Charger | RT Cats | Crawford Plenum | JIC Y-Pipe (STILL on order)

I pay $3.20 a gallon for 100 LL for my plane so $1.98 is a bargain. Plus the plane burns 9 gallons an hour!
NYC, I don't know about the flywheel for the auto. I've wondered that myself. I'm guessing it would really screw things up for the auto but I just don't know enough about how the auto trannys work. I know Neff has a 6MT and I'm just trying to stoke him into doing that after his pulley. I think Neff has the potential to be talked into a supercharger after his experience with the Crawford plenum.
