Random Tech Cats
Random Tech Cats
When I go to the random tech cats web site it says that they are totally legal, but when I went to order them from performance nissan, it said on their website that it's for offroad or race vehicles only. So what I need to know is if it's legal or not.
Re: Random Tech Cats
The warning from Performance Nissan is probably due to the fact that, from what I've been told, Federal law prohibits the replacing of catalytic converters (unless they are damaged) until 50,000 miles...I could be wrong, but that may be the reason
And let's not forget that some companies make less than truthful claims...AEM themselves got into some trouble for claiming that their clear corners and Altezza-style taillights were 100% 50-state legal, when in fact that was a fallacy

Re: Random Tech Cats
Far be it for me to suggest something illegal in the name of performance, but what are the odds that a cop is going to look at your cats? I say put 'em on...I suppose if you live in Cali it's a different story, but I don't foresee a huge issue...As long as you pass emissions I don't think the inspector will look at the cats either...This is a decision you'll have to make, but you should do whatever you want- your car, your cash, your decision...I can see not wanting to do it if you live in Cali, but otherwise, go for it...Oh, and just damaging your catalytic doesn't mean you can replace it with Random Cats- you have to replace it with an OEM component as per the law if you are under 50,000 miles
