Intake and Plenum Spacer. Couple Q's
I have an '06 5AT sedan and just got the HKS muffler on it and it sounds great. I would like to get intake for the ride but I don't want anything loud, especially during idle. For my purpose, what would be recommended?
I also plan on getting a 5/16" spacer, probably going to go with Motordyne since it seems to be the norm. I will be going with the ISO Thermal one as well, unless there is a reason to go with the basic one.
As for the MREV2, would I need it for my engine or will gain be minimal?
Finally, I was told by someone that it isn't a great idea to install the plenum spacer if you haven't yet installed an intake. Is this true? Thanks in advance for the help

Just go with a drop on K&N filter and z tube, best bang for the buck. I don't think there is an intake on te market that will be too loud at idle....or even close. MREV's will not give you much of a gain b/c you do not have the REVUP motor (A/T). Go for the ISO thermal spacer but not the copper b/c you are in LA and it doesn't get cold.
Check out the Powerlabs 3/8" spacer, it seems to get overlooked often but it is outstanding.
Finally, you can install the spacer w/o an intake! Whoever gave you that line of crap is an idiot. The OEM intake is a pretty good design actually.

Thanks, I'll definitely do that. What's the difference between the K&N filter and the JWT pop charger? HKS intake any good? Same person who said the intake should be installed with the space recommended it and I know HKS makes good products, but performance wise compared to the other two and for my personal taste, wondering how it would compare.

get an amsoil dryflow filter as the k&n requires oil to work.. the oil can get sucked up and damage your MAF sensor.. it isn't always a problem but since you don't already have the k&n .. you might as well get the amsoil dryflow which requires no oil. the JWT popcharger replaces the stock airbox with a large cone filter and a very sh*tty heatshield.. I'd recommend sticking with the stock airbox as it's the most efficient and just use a drop in filter, unless you want something that sounds mean during WOT

Also, the Amsoil filter you speak of is it this first link: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx or second: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaau.aspx ?

get the ztube as well.. it adds a little growl and less restricting than the gtube.. i'm not sure which of those is correct.. it should be a rectangular filter. I haven't actually purchased one before since I upgraded from my stock setup to my cold air intake, but I've heard they are the best

But then you need to do exhaust, at least do an axle back...you won't want to go back to the stock one, trust me.

Just installed both my plenum spacer and my ztube tonight. WOW what a combo! At the end of the day I'll say that this is how the car should have come factory.
I hear the engine but it's not loud if that makes sense. Just 30% sportier or so. Only issue I have now is that my airbox won't line up all the way like before. I tried just about everything short of removing the front bumper so I can access the bottom section an feel around down there.
Someone please advise. Thanks in advance
