Straight pipe (or test pipe) Smell

So, i know that test pipes or straight pipes give off what is described as a "noxious odor" but I've never really smelled it before in my life. Today I was behind this raspy civic Si, and I started to smell what smelled like burnt transistors, but really strong. I noticed the SI had a stock exhaust, and thought twice about the smell coming from that car, then thinking that I did something wrong with my car like over revved, but I've done that before and its not the same smell, even when hitting the rev limiter. The smell went on until I decided to pass him, then it went away.

So is the smell of test pipes or straight pipes similar to burnt transistors?

The odor you refer too is the smell of unmatched V-tech performance. Now go.. and cower in fear...

Its probably a straight pipe. Especially since you heard rasp.

All my friends were like I love the test pipe smell, i put test pipes on, holy shiet i switched them out 2 weeks later hahah Naastay, I guess I'm one of those that don't like the smell, plus when I drive behind people with that smell or people behind me I/them tend to cover their noise, now thats really annoying. Of course if I have a turbo, test pipes ftw!!

Test pipes make your exhaust smell like gasoline.
