The stock air box is well designed, allowing for heat protection and reasonable outside air flow. I would agree that a 3rd party system would not get much more HP and the stock setup. The K&N filter with Z-Tube seems to be the most reasonable setup for uniform air flow and power gains.

idk if this concerns...with 3hp or 10hp gains with a 2.5k LBS car..u cant feel a thing out of it.........i have ztube/pop for like 3years now... sound does make difference but.. i think i have very bad gas mileage..going back to stock airbox soon see if theres a REALLY big difference.. if stock is better than JWT then ill just buy a k&n to replace the stock filter..

Any new results to this thread?

What would be louder? Just curious, the JWT Pop Charger + Z-Tube or K&N Drop In + Z-tube?

Or does the actual filter make no difference at all in sound, and it's the Z-Tube that makes all the sound difference?

I have the Z-tube/Popcharger combo, felt no appreciable gains or losses in power. Sounds noticeably louder after 3k rpm. I got my setup for about $100 new so I feel that it's a nice cheap mod for the sound.

Unless you are tracking your car or seriously into performance, in which case you wouldn't be caught dead with a z-tube/PC setup anyways, the power loss or gains is negligible. If you like your engine to sound loud, get it.

I only ended up installing the Z-tube. I felt a lil difference. It is also louder and sounds AWESOME. I haven't put the pop charger in yet.

if you put the POP charger in the sound will be a lot better, my car sounds like a beast now

i did notice an increase and throttle response and little bit of power, but that could've been because my oil air filter was filthy

overall, i did the POP+ztube for sound, because coming from my old modded car, the G was too quiet for me

I've had all the combos that the OP was asking about. I drove around with the Pop charger for a year, and I finally just went back to the z-tube and k&n drop in filter, and my car is faster now than with the pop charger. Maybe if my ecu was tuned to handle increased air flow, i'd see some gain, but I think the stock ecu is optimized to work with the stock air box, etc... I swear I have more torque down low now.

seriously, all the little mods...when you add them up. Hp per $$ spent is not worth the minimal gains. I'd rather have a completely stock engine/exhaust and save up for FI.

agree with u ^^^!! NA intake mods r just for newbies and i think it is waste of money for extra little HP...u cant feel 10hp gain with around 3k pound car...NA is just for fun + sound,,and waste money....want HP go BOOOOST!! Thats wat i learn .. first day of technician school......
btw...dyno dont mean anything...just few clicks on # charts will change to whatever #s u want!

Well that all depends on your objectives. This is my EVERYDAY car/beater. So i just do little things for fun/ driving aesthetics. We use to turbocharge our little cars back in the day. Yeah it was cute and fun. Im talking SUPRA's, Z's, 240SX, etc. But after a while you want more and more until you blow your engine. (not the supra. that could go to 900hp + without changing internals).

But Im about to put in my order for the REAL "G"...or the S5. Both come pre-BOOSTED.

A ram air system would be really easy to design on these cars. I did it on a car before. The only thing is, the filter was RIGHT at the intake manifold as opposed to being at the end of the intake tubing like ours is.
I agree. The OEM air dam that sits over the radiator seems to be the only route for cool air. I noticed this when I installed my JWT & Motordyne spacer. At the time, I could not remove that sound damper (plastic bottle) under stock intake.

I modified the lower section of my front bumper to allow more airflow.
Remove that sound damper bottle.
Disassemble the driver side wheel well cover held by a bunch of plastic clips. You'll find a plastic and foam piece in the lower bumper.
Use a dremel to cut out a rectangle in the plastic piece then replace.
This will allow direct airflow THROUGH the lower bumper.
Completely unnoticeable at first glance because the hole is behind the lower bumper grill.
I'm working on a DIY with pics that I'll post soon.
