air filter replacement

so i'm about to install my z-tube and probably going to get a reusable air filter for the stock box...my question is what do you guys prefer out there?

i read this one thread with someone saying they noticed alot of debris getting through the k&n and they recommended a different brand but i can't seem to find it now...

search your query. starting a new thread on this is just going to add to the huge list of semi-relevant threads. these opinion threads rarely end in a consensus anyhow. research is your best friend in this instance...

Amsoil or K&N, either drop in filter will protect you car from the elements....no worries!

I bought my Amsoil filter from their website: http://www.amsoil.com. As far as I know, that's the only place to purchase any of their products, none locally.

Yeah, there will be a lot of opinions out there... Here's my $0.02. I've been using K&N in all my vehicles for years and have not had any problems. If there truly was debris getting through, the filter may be damaged or not installed properly. However, some people have over oiled the element and the excess oil accumulated on the MAF causing problems.

I would like to try the Amsoil air filter since they have good products.

Let us know what you get and a review.

I've had K&Ns in my previous Z28, Maxima, and my current G35. A couple of years ago I bought the Amsoil dry filter because I'm just not convinced that K&N's filtering oil is effective and I have worrys that the filtering oil can build residue on the hair-width MAF elements. I've been pleased with my Amsoil filter and the fact that I can blow it out with my air compressor. The MAF screen doesn't get remotely as grime covered either.

I second that motion on the Amsoil dry filter... no mess.. no reoiling... and I even realized about a 3-4 mpg increase after replacing the OEM filter with this replacement... so in a way, I guess you can say it will eventually PAY for itself!!

I've opened too many plenums to count.
I've seen a lot of clean plenums.
I've seen a lot of dirty plenums.
I've seen a lot of really dirty plenums caked up in thick oily mud.

My observations have been this.

Of all the dirty and really dirty plenums, all of them had some sort of aftermarket filter attached.
Of the clean plenums, there were a few that had after market filters attached.

I also noticed of all the paper filter being used, 100% of their plenums were clean. Even if the paper filter was dirty.

I also noticed 100% of the people who have had MAF sensor problems also had some sort of aftermarket filter being used.

Based on dyno testing I've done, I also found a clean paper filter dynos identically to a clean aftermarket filter.

------

In conclusion, my recommendation is to use stock paper filters to keep your engine clean and change them out often to maintain the best performance.
