Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

Looking at upgrading my sedan's exhaust, but i really don't want to drop close to a g (stillen cat-back). In the lower price range i found the Borla for $650 at everythingg35.com, is this a true dual set up? Also, what kind of gains can be expected over stock, and are there any other exhuast systems that will give more gains for around the same price? Also, is the Borla more deep and throaty (Porsche-esque) or ricey? One last question, what kind of price can i expect for an install from a shop? Thanks!

Re: Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

I got mine pretty cheap, and am having it installed gratis by the people fixing up my car. I'd say it's a pretty simple install from looking at the parts/instructions/undercarriage... that's just me, though. Maybe 1-2h, so $70-200, depending on the shop?

One of the reasons I got it was its throaty sound. Much nicer than ricer exhausts, to me... check out the clips here (Thanks, Lin).

And yes, it's true-dual. Without tearing open the muffler, I can't tell you if it's walled into two, but I'm going to assume so. One muffler, two "inputs", two tips. The system has two parallel pipes that run under the car, no Y-pipe.

Considering I get my car back on Monday or Tuesday, you'll be the first to know Send a PM to G35Lin, as he's got it too. On paper, yes, it's noticable. I'm also throwing on the Pop and Z-tube, so my baby can breathe.

Yeah, im putting in a Stillen CAI, and ive already got the Z-tube, so airflow shouldn't be a problem. What would be the main difference (besides a big difference in price) between the borla exhuast, and this rear section stillen exhuast (https://g35driver.com/classifieds/pa...x=18&item=1240)? If they are similar in performance gains than $150 sounds a lot better than $650.

the borla exhaust is good. i have it on my car, its a nice deep sounding exhaust. you will like it and the car is faster at speed. look for my post about my 1/4 runs with it. 3rd gear pulls much better. theres a bit of tq gain and some good hp gain.

Does the Borla exhaust have the same "droning" sound that's been noticed on the Stillens at around 2500-3500rpm range? I have the Stillen and my car's at that rpm range a lot during highway cruising so I'm considering replacing it with a Borla if this keeps up.

past 2500rpm the borla is rather quiet. i would say its loudest point is from 1500-1800 and then from 2100-2500. that is with minimal accel. with alot of gas the whole rev range isnt really very loud. so on the highway if you drive over 2500rpm you can bearly hear it.

Re: Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

Anyone know of a sound clip of the stillen i could check out?

Also, what kind of gains (sound/performance) would something like the rear section stillen exhuast give me? Its a hell of a lot cheaper.

Re: Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

I haven't seen or heard a G35 yet with any exh. sys. that is
st. through that doesn't have a "drone" to it! Iv'e had my Borla since
Dec./03, I love it. A "true" dual sys. Top end HP can't
be beat. ( dyno sheets prove it) Ask DaveO!! Truly the best
bang for the $buck. Add a JWT Popcharger/350Z int. tube or
K&N Typhoon int.sys. to complete the sys. OH, don"t forget
The 5 to 7 wire gr. kit. You should see 15 to 18hp for less
than &1000.oo
Good Luck,

Re: Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

Just adding a muffler won't net you any power gains. It's only for sound and looks. Think about it. The bottleneck in the stock exhaust system is mainly in the Y-pipe and maybe a bit in the mid-pipe. Doing a whole catback system like the Stillen or Borla will indeed produce more power. Both systems are true duals with an X-pipe for the stillen and a H-pipe for the Borla. This basically lets each bank of the exhausts manifolds have it's own independent route of scavenging the exhasut gases. I'd suggest you do a search on this topic, there's some good info that's already been discussed.

Y-pipe (Stock)
H-Pipe (Borla)
X-pipe (Stillen)

Which one give more HP for G35 sedan with CAI?...Simple question!

Re: Sedan Borla Exhuast....True Dual?

True Blue Duals!

In reality, is it all that important?

How is a "true dual" exhaust system defined?

What qualities make up a good exhaust system?

Is a true blue dual system defined as two non-connecting exhaust paths?

Why aren't all "dual" exhaust systems designed with two separate exhaust paths like Injen's? It's certainly cheaper and easier to build them that way.

Why do some have a common section like Stillen's X-pipe or Borla's H-pipe? Some of the answers may be found here... http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/69238/

Personally, I include systems with X-pipes and H-pipes in the dual exhaust system category but remain undecided on systems with a common muffler canister. Borla's Sedan System has two... Stillen's has one.

Do I personally care how an exhaust system is defined? Not really. My exhaust system priorities didn't include type or classification. They did include significant across the board performance improvement, followed closely by sound and quality, and finally ease of installation and warranty.

My recommendations? Forget definitions. Prioritize your personal requirements, do your research and buy the system that's right for you.

Bob, the old road rat, did. As you can see his exhaust system and CAI buying decisions were different than mine.
