MotorDyne Shockwave exhaust
MotorDyne Shockwave exhaust (pics added)
Well i got my motordyne exhaust installed and dyno'ed the other day. The prior exhaust was a Tanabe Hyper Medalion with a Tanabe Y pipe. We dyno'ed the Tanabe first, swapped the exhaust and had it back on the dyno in an hour. The only difference in conditions is that it was 4 degrees hotter outside for the dyno on the shockwave.
Impression, well first off just looking at it in the box, definate WOW factor. Second the welds and craftsmanship, night and day difference compaired to my old exhaust, Next is the fitment, well the Y pipe fit perfect no tension on the test pipes, the tanabe had plenty of tension and cracked a couple test pipes for me. Long term we'll find out if they get cracked. The Y back, perfect fit , fits the hangers as expected and no clearance issues, it fits in there close, but nothing touches and nothing touches under load.
Peformance, we'll let the dyno charts speak for themselves.

Sound, well its loud. So far everyone who has heard it likes it. Some say it got a sportbike sound but so much deeper. All say it still has most of the standard VQ sound. Personally i love it , but IMHO its a little to much for my DD, i will have the next tail section when MotorDyne gets it on the market. One V band clamp and its swapped over. Personally i'mm going to run the quieter VQ muffler on the street and the Shockwave track use.
The Dyno runs were performed at http://www.silverstatemotorsports.com/ , they were sceptical and thinking the exhausts would be within 3 Hp of each other.
The exhausts can be ordered from http://www.motordyneengineering.com/
Mods to car, DC headers, Megan Test pipes, Kinetics V+, JWT flywheel, JWT popcharger is about all for the power mods, i know i need to tune it soon, but will be done with FI later.

So, the MD exhaust is a single not a dual system? I thought from what I'd
seen posted it was a dual system from the cats/test pipes back....my mistake!

Tony,
I see that you have three exhaust options on the website for the exhaust, so I have a few questions:
Would it possible to state how much of a horsepower difference each of the different exhaust components add?
If not, maybe put the difference in air flow for each part with the "XYZ" pipe?
For example, the XYZ with the resonator pipe will flow "this much air", and the XYZ with the straight pipe will flow X% more/faster etc...
Or maybe put it in terms of HP/TQ like you do with the spacer?
Maybe when all the exhaust components are done, have a java app or something so people can "build" their exhaust online and see how effective the finish product would be?
Thanks and keep up all your amazing work!

Thanks Byte me77,
The straight pipe and resonator shown are identical in performance in the top end and the resonator makes just a smige more TQ down around 2500 RPM (~4 TQ). Otherwise the difference is primarialy in sound.
The catalytic converter OTOH makes 3-4 HP less than either the straight pipe or resonator.

Are there any pics of the Dual exhaust setup for the G35 Coupe?
