resonator delete

Re: resonator delete
it is not a resonator, it's a pre-muffler
a resonator would take the exhaust tone and amplify it (think of listening to a song with 0 bass, then turning it up all the way, that's kinda what a resonator does). had resonators on my last mustang and they friggin shake the windows in houses, lol. if it were a resonator then taking it out would quite it down a lot
use pre-muffler term, not resonator

I've been under the assumption that the pre-muffler was called a resonator for some time now. i guess i picked up the term way back when from my buddies. thanks for the input.... but my question still needs answering???

Re: resonator delete
My understanding is resonators are premufflers...Resonators typically quite motor/exhaust system resonances more commonly known as rasp. Take out the resonator on any 4 or 6 cyl and the rasp is horrible.
The other consideration of removing a premuffler or resonator is performance. By reducing the back pressure you might get an increase at the top end but sacrifice mid range Tq. A lot of people focus on the peak Hp number but you spend like 1% of the time at that RPM. I'll take a boost in midrange power any day over peak perf....Learned this lesson the hard way modding my SHO.
