Exhaust - Stillen vs GReddy vs Fujitsubo

I am looking at getting an exhaust for my G35 Sedan. I am not really sure which one to get. I want one that sounds deep and a little bit louder. I don't want one that sounds like a lawn mower. From everyone that I have talked to it seems like the three mentioned above are the main ones to look at. Does anybody have any recommendations? Do they all produce about the same amount of horsepower?

Re: Exhaust - Stillen vs GReddy vs Fujitsubo

Here's a post I put in a few days ago about my brand new Stillen -- enjoy... Q

Got my Stillen installed today by my local dealer! It absolutely ROCKS! I was going to do it myself as I had access to a lift, but they put it in for $135. That was a decent price as they also installed a mylar heat shield from thermotec.com that went between the OEM heat shroud near the tranny and the under carraige (that was the biggest pain according to the tech). According to the folks at Avalon Racing (where I got the exhaust) that eliminates a lot of the resonance associated with the Stillen.

First impressions:

Are there performance gains?
Oh yeah, a LOT! This thing pulls like a locomotive going down hill, especially between 3.5K and redline -- WOW!

Is it noisier?
A little. I was worried about the "droning" that I read so many posts on, but I don't mind the sound at all. Its no longer whisper-jet quiet like stock, but now the car sounds like it means business! You can hardly tell its no longer stock on the highway (no kidding, you can hardly hear it around 3K at 60-70 mph --even at 90 mph, its not the least bit intrusive). Around town while rowing through the 6-mt it sounds AWESOME! Between 4K-6K this thing ROARS with authority -- I mean its too cool! (Maybe the folks who thought it droned had 5-AT's?)

Am I satisfied with the workmanship?
Absolutely! With only four pieces this thing is solid -- very well made, and the folks at the dealer thought it went in extremely well. The tech was very impressed with the workmanship and bends of the pipes -- a great system.

The dealer really wanted to install it and they did a great job. With the mylar shield, they said it took just under 2 hours. I think every tech at the dealership drove it -- they didn't want to give it back! Combined with a previously installed Z-tube and Popcharger, this engine really breathes now.

I was worried about all the posts of the Stillen's noise "problems," droning, etc. But I gotta tell ya, I'm a believer in Stillen's products (of course, it helps that I got this thing delivered for $850) for not only the h/p gains, but the AWESOME sound!

My 6-MT sedan was made for this exhaust!

Gotta go row the gears one more time at WOT before I turn in for the night -- wo-HOO!!

:-)

Re: Exhaust - Stillen vs GReddy vs Fujitsubo

Neff,

I got it from Avalon Racing who ordered a Stillen for a coupe and got one for a sedan instead. They basically wanted to get rid of it as they had it for a few weeks. SoCalTed hooked me up...

And yes, I have a 6MT sedan. Man, I love this exhaust! Q

P.S. My wife drove the car to the gym the other day (she doesn't know I swapped out the exhaust) and she never mentioned a thing when she got home, like "did you get a new muffler or something?" She couldn't tell the difference in noise. Of course, she's not a car nut either, so all she ever hears is the radio... :-)

Fujitsubo all the way... i have one on my coupe...very nice its condsider to be a quiet exhaust...adds a very nice touch to the tone ..perfect for me or people that do not want to get too much attention...and as for power goes it really pulls after 3.5 k rpm...so much better than stock...

Nick,
Be sure to differentiate feedbacks of the coupe exhausts vs. the sedan variety. In virtually all cases, you will find them very different both in tone and volume as well as perfromance regardless of being made by the same manufature. Often, the sedan counter part is louder from within the cabin, due mainly to the smaller primary muffler being used and differnet in-cabin accoustics.

Having said that, I have the Fujitsubo exhaust for the SEDAN. The sound I find simply wonderful and I believe is similar to the coupe version, but certainly not identical. Again, the difference of having a smaller primary muffler and one single outlet. IMHO, the tone (not to be confused with volume) is more aggressive than the Borla, but in a different matter compare to the Stillen. I hate to say it, you'd really have to hear for yourself.

This is a 'y-pipe back' exhaust, where the Stillen and Borla are both 'cat back', so to really appreciate any gains you would want to also get a Y-pipe to complete the full cat-back equation. The performance gain is DEFINTIELY noticible (w. the Y-pipe) and I'm not foolish enough to quote you a figure out of my butt-dyno.

Noise level is very subjective. I even find myself drawing the line between acceptable vs. loud vs. droning very differently simply depending on the mood! There are times when I thought the exhaust could be louder and a few times maybe a little less. In general, past 3000 rpm is a very smooth and sporty. Like the competition, 2000 - 3000rpm is where most of the droning amd criticism is likely to happen. I believe it to be quietier than the Stillen here and possibly a little louder than the Borla.

I hope to have some video for you sometime this month. Good luck w. ur selection.
