keep trying, its pretty tricky

but the key is to make sure the car is warmed up

but with a 1000 RPM idle, i'm 99% sure it's the high idle code. make sure you do all 3 of the resets before you do the idle air
That's interesting because I thought the 1K RPM idle was pretty normal. I went ahead and did the quick ECU reset which basically consists of:

1. turn to the ON position for 3 seconds
2. pressing the gas pedal hard 5 times in under 5 seconds
3. waiting 7 seconds and holding down the gas pedal until the SES light starts to flash
4. release the gas pedal
5. press the gas pedal and hold for an additional 10 seconds

This caused the SES light to turn off.

Now I don't know if it will come back on or not but I'll keep this thread updated.

if it comes back on and your idle is still around 1000 rpm i would keep trying the idle air relearn

otherwise, who cares!

UPDATE:

- My SES light came back on last night after doing the simple reset.
- I disconnected the negative battery terminal overnight to reset ECU.
- Woke up today and the SES light was not on.
- Idle with the engine absolutely cold was around 1-1.5K RPM's.
- After warming up I did the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure, and the idle stayed right around 650 RPM's or so.
- So far, no Service Engine Soon light!

I just hope I don't get one because I don't know how what else to do to fix it!

If u did the batery disconnect then it shouldn't come on anymore unless there is something really wrong. It was one of the first suggestions and u should have tried that first. Im glad u finally did.

What do you mean by this? Because when the engine is cold the idle RPM's are right around 2K or so. And then with the engine warmed up around 650 RPM's. But my SES light came back on! So already for whatever reason I don't know what the hell to do. I have reset my ECU and before resetting the ECU and after resetting the ECU I did the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure and I still got a SES light a few days later!

Suggestions?

well, at this point i would take the car to autozone/advanced auto parts and get them to scan the code for free

might be something completely unrelated

There's no way to check what the code is without taking it somewhere? Because if my idle when the engine is 100% cold is 2K RPM's isn't that a little high?

I'm just confused here I mean what is the actual PROCEDURE for the car throwing a SES light after the instake is installed? I just don't understand how this has never happened to anyone else.

Take the car to autozone!!! Diagnosing a CEL is impossible without knowing the code. Thats why the light comes up, so you can get it checked. Just drive to autozone and they'll check it for free.
