Ztube and K&N - ECU reset required?

Is this absolutely required? If I don't reset the ECU, will it not "learn" my agressive driving style over time?

(I'm doing this install tomorrow)

Thanks for any info you can provide...

Re: Ztube and K&N - ECU reset required?

I just did the K&N and Z-Tube this past weekend and did not reset the ECU. I didn't reset based on my take on the many, many posts on the subject. BTW, many thanks to SOCALTED and others for the great DIY instructions!

The growl from the Z-Tube was not as pronounced as I had expected. However, it is just right for my taste - not really noticeable under normal driving but there when you 'mean business' and not so obnoxious that everyone looks at you like a kid in a ricer with loud exhaust.

As far as responsiveness goes, I 'feel' that it has improved from 2K to 4K. I really can't tell after that. I hope to make it to the S. Florida Dyno Day to see how it compares to other intake setups.

i did a reset after i put my ztube on. but not immediately, i did it later that night. i htink that you could go either way on wether or not you need to reset it.

cool. thanks for the responses guys. i know this has been talked about before, but i've never heard anyone say it is "required." that's why i posed the question. however, since responses are mixed, i'll assume that it does not really matter. as i understand it, the ECU will eventually learn over time. therefore, the more agressive i drive, the faster it will learn.

thanks again...

yep thats bout right. the reset just makes it instantaneous. if i were you i would just disconnect the neg terminal of your battery before you go to sleep and then when you get up or 12hrs later connect it back up and off you go.

Re: Ztube and K&N - ECU reset required?

why would they lie to me?? they did it for me for free once, and they give me employee discounts on parts...

they said that it calculates the air ratio instantaneously, or something like that, and thats why you dont have to reset it.

the service dept there and the mechanics are really cool people! when i asked them about the break-in period, they said "drive it like you stole it!" and they're absolutely right...
not all dealerships are crooked...

which dealer is this? i'm looking for a good one. the dealer i bought the car from lies to me and tries to downplay stuff. Or sometimes they don't even know what they are talking about or they assume that you don't know and just lie straight out to you and give you a bs answer when in fact you can see right thru the service rep.

Dude PM him the name of the dealership. Do not post it please and ruin it for both the chill people working at the dealership and for those going there. Thanks
