Hey again everyone.
I have a question on page (EX-3) of the 03-04 Coupe Repair Manual, there is an illustration of the whole OEM exhaust system. Item identified as #3 is the muffler. However the actual ending line of item #3 is a triangular shaped metal shield/housing found right in front (facing front of engine) of the muffler attached by 4 bolts.

Anyone know what this is called or what its for? Furthermore, is it really necessary to have on there? Mine vibrates loud enough at a certain RPM range and can be heard at times when at idle or driving. I already got under and attempted to tighten the bolts, but they were tight already. I also went ahead and did a couple of other mickey mouse fixes to eliviate the vibration sound, but was unsuccessful. The vibration sound stopped only when I completely removed this shield or housing of some sort.

When I removed it, I didnt see anything behind it/under it that I could see would be jeopardized, but if its there, it must be for a reason. So I guess what I want to do is completely remove it, but I am wondering if there is any dangers or negative issues that could result in doing so.

Any help on this, as always, would be much appreciated.
Thanks everyone!!!
