Magnaflow catback

Is it just me or does this exhaust unit get zero attention in this forum? I purchased one on eBay for $500 shipped. I have heard most of the other systems out there, in person, such as FI, Greddy, HKS and the Magnaflow unit just sounds so much better. The hp/torque gain isn't the greatest, but for the money the hp to money ratio is nearly unbeatable, not to mention the fit and finish of the product is top notch. The thing I love most about it though is the sound. Very quiet at idle and a nice low quite tone during normal driving. When you let the motor do what it does best, it sounds unbelievable. I guess I was just curious to know why more people don't talk about or recommend it.

Magnaflow....great exhaust!

For some odd reason Magnaflow doesn't get a lot of respect on Driver, and
it's even stranger since they're the number one exhaust company in this
country. I ran a Magnaflow system for over a year and it didn't cost me a
dime. After a while I needed more sound and planning on a Vortech
install soon so the HKS will give me a meaner growl and more flow or flooo.... What no one is aware of is that Magnaflow designed the
Stillen exhaust and many others like Billy Boat and just puts the other
companys names on them....Oh they're Magnaflow but it just doesn't say
that on the tips! This is a secret....don't tell anyone!

Good. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy. It seems like such a great deal, I thought it would get more attention. Oh well...

You need to list the primaries and collector dimensions. It's probably just as good as most others out there.

But isn't this a single exhaust? It's too bad that magnaflow designed it this way. They really could have had a winner if they designed a true dual out of their own parts. ie... resonated 2 in / 2 out X pipe into some of their resonators out into two or a dual muffler setup. It's what alot of guys are modding their Borlas to do.

Jeff, aren't they coming out with a true dual version of their exhaust setup? If so, maybe we'll find the new one has the same features you mention ^ ^

By custom do you mean you replaced a resonator with a muffler?

Light's out, do you have any sound clips of your setup? I'd love to hear it. How loud is the exhaust compared to stock with no resonator?

Also, do you have any issues with droning? Sorry for all the questions but this was the setup I originally wanted (search the forums) but I couldn't find anyone with a coupe who had one I can listen to. Thanks in advance btw!!

couple members have asked about my exhaust and wanted sound clips but I have failed to make one yet. honestly from exhaust sounds I've heard I think my magnaflow is top 5. I compare it to nismo. power and torque numbers I don't know. ( took it to a dyno but was unable to get on the dyno) there is not much droaning only on take off and that's when the rpm is below 2. above 2 it goes away, but the droaning is not loud in the first place. after installing HR ypipe droaning picked up more but same results after 2 rpm. on fwy and cruising speeds car is quite in cab but u can still tell u have an exhaust. stock with no resonator I was told DON'T DO IT, so I don't know. I recommend go with a custom magnaflow or just change the muffler to nismo or the other similar muffler. sound is about the same. I need to make a sound clip. also my exhaust sounds nothing like hks.

LO,

thanks for the quick response. This definately helps me get an idea of what's going on with the exhaust. What sound would you liken the exhaust to overall?

I really enjoy my exhaust set up. I let my girl drive my car and hearing the car drive away sounds awesome. kinda has the mix between american muscle japanese pitch, put together.

overall I give my exhaust 8 out of 10. 8 for the sweet sound at high rpm's, low sound when at idle. bad part is sometimes the droan gets annoying when trying to conserve gas and being in a high gear while driving slow causes droan. if I could do it all over again I would put the tanabe muffler/mag/nismo and hr ypipe only, keeping stock mid pipe. I think that will have no droan at all.
