I have yet to see a single dyno showing gains from an aftermarket y-pipe. I knew this when going with HR y-pipe, but I was intrigued by the design and that it was a cheap OEM part. I figured for $50, what the hell? I was very happy with the result in terms of throttle response and exhaust sound. Honestly, I "felt" more with this pipe compared to what I felt with the MD spacer. If I hadn't noticed any change or if the car felt slower with it, I would have removed it immediately. I honestly believe there's really no power to be gained, but it sure does make the VQ35DE feel and sound better. To me, that's worth the price.

As for aftermarket y-pipes, I've read of numerous cases of them causing a lack of low rpm throttle response (piping too large most likely), rasp, and even cracking HFCs/TPs/OEM cats because the pipe flex sections or lack of flex sections, torques the cat cases and mounting points.

Dave, why would an aftermarket be any worse if the primaries and outlet are similar to the HR?

To be honest, there are not HR dyno sheets either. And some people are selling aftermarket Ys for the same price used HR units.

The ultimate question is why does the HR seem better? The piping in/outs are similar. But it seems the HR has more consistent piping (less crush bends) and less severe bends. One might argue better collector and merge angles too.

Thing is, aftermarket pipe features the same things, thus should provide the same type of effect.

It's odd that the 2004x features this "HR" Y also.

I'm really just looking for some deeper exhaust note without spending $500+.
And if I get a little more torque/hp then that much better.
I paid 100 for mine and its performed exactly like Dave said. Best 100 spent on my G IMO. You'll get some gains and a deeper exhaust note + OEM plug and play. What else can you ask for?

How much are dynos anyways?

If the price isn't prohibitive, I might volunteer. I have yet to install my y-pipe on my 06 sedan.

Guess I'll call Performance Z tomorrow.

I might be picking up an HR y pipe locally but don't know of any good places around me for dyno.
Any ideas?
I'm in the 626/818 area all the time.

+1....I'm curious to see this too. Try to find a heart breaker Mustang dyno if you can. Not one with inflated #s

Anyone know if the mufflers off the 350Z HRs are the same as the G35 coupes with the revup engines 06-07?
