OEM HR Y-pipe vs aftermarket y-pipe

So I'm in the market for an HR ypipe for my coupe and have seen several aftermarket ypipes for the 350Z.
Is there any advantage to getting the OEM 350Z ypipes for HRs as opposed to trying to hookup some used aftermarket Ypipes for the 350Z?
I keep seeing aftermarket ypipes on 350Z forum.
I think some of the aftermarket have 3" intake piping.
From what I hear it's best ot stick with OEM since all piping will be 2.5" and be a straight plug n play.

Decent question. One that I brought up too. HR unit is going to have better noise suppression due to it's thickness.

I'd guess that an aftermarket with similar down pipe size and outlet sizes ie.. outlet at less than 3" would produce similar gains. There's no point in going 3" if the rest of the system is 2.5" etc... That would create rasp and bad flow potential.

IIRC, the Tanabe is something close to 2.75".

I've been wanting to know the same. I don't know if I should get a HR Y pipe or an aftermarket one for the HR motor?

Which one would yeild more gains with a stock exhaust?

Any suggestions on aftermarket Y pipes?

One has to ask themselves why the HR unit "seems" to make better power than oem. If you are coupled to an OEM catback, you are limited in choices IMHO. Which narrows the field down considerably. ie.. why would you want a 3" Y outlet when your oem is only 2.5"ish?

This issue should be discussed further.

I say an aftermarket Y with similar tubing size should yield similar results. Especially if the main reason why the HR gains is due to the less restrictive pipe/design.

I think there would have to be some quality tests conducted to really answer this question.

Comparing different tests wouldn't say anything conclusive unless someone was doing a proper test with direct before/after results.

Seems odd that that everyone's contention that aftermarket Ys = nil but everyone is on the HR Y bandwagon?

There seems to be a lot of good points in Dave B's thread about installing the y pipe on his G35 sedan, but yeah no solid data.
I'm really just looking for some deeper exhaust note without spending $500+.
And if I get a little more torque/hp then that much better.
