Sedan-Replacement Muffler?

Does anyone have either an HKS, Borla, or any other stand-alone aftermarket muffler (excluding the entire exhaust system) on their G35 Sedan, and if so how do you like it?

I was thinking about getting such a bolt-on muffler as an easy mod (replacing my stock muffler), but do not want to go with an entirely new exhaust system and do not want a ricey sound. I was hoping to 1. get a better, less restrictive, higher flowing muffler (without sacrificing any low-end power or torque), 2. improve the sound (deeper, throaty, but not ricey); something similar to the sound of our FX35, and 3. get another muffler with dual chrome tips which stick out just a bit further than the stock tips...I like the stock dual tips (although they should have separated them like Infiniti does in the G35 Coupe and FX ;-) but they just seem so hidden underneath.

I already have the Z tube/K&N combo and love it, but that nice sound and power only really kicks in after about 3,500 rpm as most of you know. Do any of these stand-alone mufflers do this? Or...should I just poke a hole in my current stock muffler...ha ha. ;-) Thanks for the info.

You might want to ask a modator to add "sedan" to the title of your thread.

Their was a recent post in the sedan section about the HKS muffler, it should be on page 2 or 3 I'd think. I think it has some of the imput your after.

Re: Replacement Muffler?

Found it, Thanks!! From their posts, it seems like the HKS muffler would be a nice mod -- decent sound improvement over stock, maybe a little power gain, and longer ss tips. Thanks for pointing out that thread.

Re: Sedan-Replacement Muffler?

I have the dual tip HKS rear section exhaust (aka mufler) and like
it very much. I can feel the extra power and it compliments my intake.
There is absolutly no rice can sound at all. It is deeper than stock.

Re: Replacement Muffler?

Thanks Edmund for adding 'Sedan' to the title and thanks Cato for your comments on your HKS. It may have to wait a few months, but I'm seriously thinking about adding this mod.

One more question, do the HKS muffler ss tips stick out a couple more inches than stock (similar to lets say a BMW 330i tips -- which I have to say look good)? I read through the other thread and saw your pics, but it's still hard to tell. Thanks.

Re: Replacement Muffler?

No, the tips don't stick out two inches more than stock. They may
be a bit longer, but not by much.
