exhaust legality?

my friends an automotive technician and claims it's illegal to modify your exhaust in any way, regardless of how loud it is. apparently if it's too loud it's a different law violation all together. i'm thinking about putting the KFC true dual catback on my car, I live in south florida.

my friend's dads a cop and says as long as it's not too loud you'll never get **** for it but i want know the actual legality of modifying the exhaust on the g.

also there's a guy in my neighborhood who has a black g35 coupe with what looks like the exhaust i want to put on, I was wondering if hes on here. i live in grand cypress estates in SoFlo.

let's put all your floridians' legal knowledge to the test.

I don't know about Florida but I do know that you can get busted if your exhaust is too loud up here in Illinois.

ON the contrary, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I was just told I had to take the emissions test yesterday and passed with flying colors in under 2 mins.

BTW I'm running Berk High Flow Cats, Fast Intentions Intimidator exhaust, Motordyne 5/16th Plenum ISO Spacer, K&N Filter and plan on going FI next summer.

I'm still going to run HFCs bc I know being in Chicago, you can get picked to do the stupid emissions test at any moment.

I don't feel like dealing with the bs either

to the OP you are correct. My friend almost got a ticket for his exhaust on his EVO when he got yanked for speeding.

Technically in Florida, it is Illegal to modify you exhaust in ANY way. and its against Federal Law to Modify your cats unless they are damaged or required replacing.

also if your exhaust is too loud you can get a ticket regardless of being modified or not. (over a certain dB rating)

BUT (AND I STRESS THE BUT)

I HIGHLY doubt a cop will pull you over for exhaust or being too loud. Its like having dark tint in Florida, a cop wont pull you over for it, but he might give you issues for it if you get pulled over for something else. I literally had straight pipes on my car for awhile and I never got pulled over for it (but I have been followed quite a few times lol).

Also as far as the cats, its against federal law, BUT we do not have emissions testing in Florida...sooo you put 2 and 2 together lol.

so id say go for it, get your Cat-back and whatever else you want and enjoy it. Just dont drive like a ricer around cops.

(on another note I live not to far from you so see you around!)
