Borla Exhaust

I was under my car yesterday and saw a significant amount of rust on the 2 cats and on the entire exhaust. The tech that was under there with me didn't understand how I didn't have check engine light already for some kind of leak. I am very interested in the borla exhaust because it looks like it keeps the true duel exhaust with the stock look. I have read up on the borla and I had a borla exhaust on my previous car (2002 Jetta 2.0) and it was great with a good sound but not to much. My question is does this exhaust only work for RWD G35 or can I use it on my AWD G35?

Here's my borla review with pics. Not sure if anyone here put one on their AWD though.

I actually read your Borla review on the sticky threads. I am not new to using threads I used to use VWvortex for my jetta before I bought my G. I just couldn't find much about the AWD models. I sent an email to Borla tonight and once I find out I will post their response here unless someone else knows the answer.

the Borla exhaust requires heavy modification for it to fit right on the AWD's. Your best bet is to either use the Coupe Midpipe and HKS Muffler or go with the Stillen Gen II.

Wow that's pretty disappointing. I was pretty excited about this exhaust. I will look at those two exhausts

I think stillen might make a version for the AWD. And it's a true dual. Or fast intentions. They are true dual and use the magnaflow X like I added. Not sure if they make one for our 1st gens or for the AWD.

At worst you might need some custom pipe bent for one side.

I dont think FI makes one for the 1st gen G sedan...I was considering going with the Borla, but I'm kinda iffy about it. I heard fitment is not all that great and requires modification using the clamps or something. Gonna check out your review Jeff and see what other G members have posted.

To the OP, why don't you look into something custom? If you're located in So Cal I know of a place. I actually plan on going custom.

Yes you are right stillen does make a version for the AWD for our years. It looks great my question is that you can't tell from videos is how loud is it compared to stock and does it have a good sound? Anyone know power differences, it says 20+hp increase so I would think you could feel that or see it some sort of times. Finally I need to address my catalytic converters any suggestions for stainless steel replacements? I know stillen makes high flow cats and I live in Maryland so I don't have to worry about CARB legal stuff. I assume replacing with a stillen exhaust (955) and a high flow cats (516) that is most likely cheaper then what the dealer would charge me basically for almost a full exhaust modification. Anyone have reviews on this exhaust?

I've heard the exhaust from a friends car. It's pretty loud, but my muffler delete with coupe midpipe was louder and it had more bass to it as opposed to the Stillen where it sounded more raspy.

Knowing what I know now, I'd go custom. As I've heard and experienced the differences in my exhaust and read extensive reviews on the Borla/Stillen.

2.25" or 2.5" pipe, resonated Magnaflow X, maybe two resonators and a good 2in/2out muffler out back. My shop said they could do that for $500-$600.

From what read for loudness. Stillen Gen I, then gen II, then Borla. Or borla then gen II.

Aslo I think the Borla drones more but gets quiet as the revs get higher. The stillen might not drone but gets louder when the revs go up. Borla uses 2.25" pipe while stillen used 2.5"

I dont know why but megan advertises it as a catback, but if that were the case, it would include the y pipe, which it doesn't, so it's a y back. I've thought about the megan racing as its only 400 buck shipped, but i'm sorta eh, about megan. I'd rather get the HKS with coupe midpipe. HKS sounds nice, just too much for just an axle back.
