Drone

As some of you may know I got my new exhaust installed yesterday. This is the first aftermarket exhaust I have ever had. I have been in other cars with drone but have never experienced anything as bad as what I have now.

Give then I have come from stock my whole life, will it just take a few days for me to get used to the the drone I have now? This exhaust has zero rasp. It is very, very deep. I think that is what causes all the drone.

I really don't want to install the silencers but I might have to.

Can anyone give me some insight about what I should do, or if I will get use to it.

Thanks in advanced.

top speed is known to have the most drone. you could try changing resonators or something but it looks like you shouldve done a bit more research first...

I guess you'll just have to live with it, I'm not sure if silencers or resonators would help. You should PM Tony (Hydrazine) for his input on how to cut down the drone if it's bothering you that much. I actually like how the topspeed sounds but I can definitely imagine the drone at lower speeds.

Best solution: new exhaust.

Resonators might help, but nothing will completely get rid of it.

I got this exhaust because I am a full time high school senior with a job on the side so I have no money.

I got this for $350 so I thought I really can't beat it. I read FRY's thread about it and he said it is "Girlfriend approved" ROFL.

I love the sound and how I can feel it in my chest when driving but the exhaust is the loudest at 2000 rpm and since I am auto the car keeps me at 2000 rpm, so there is nothing I can really do except drive in tiptronic 100% of the time which will kill my tanny.

I'll probably get new tips once I get my hfcs and headers installed. I think after the HFCs and headers get put in I will have substantially less drone because there will be significantly more rasp.

No it won't. Unless you keep your RPMs excessively high all the time, MM won't hurt a thing.

Unlikely. You'll hear the rasp at WOT and the drone at all other times.

That sucks man - I know you were looking forward to getting it installed. I guess hopefully you can get used to it or...hrm...save up some more money, sell it and go for round 2?

Using MM will help you keep your revs up and out of the Drone Zone, but yeah, aftermarket exhaust and AT are a sub-optimal combo. That's why I sold my Stillen and instead went with the Z middy for my sedan.

triptronic won't kill your tranny. Its there for a reason.. Also adding HFC/test pipes and headers will make your car even more louder I mean that in a bad way.. You'll drone even more.

Yea like I don't even know what to do. My biggest problem is, I love the sound and can probably learn to live with the drone, BUT, I have kinetix high flow cats and polished megan racing headers waiting to be installed. I don't think I'll be able to deal with that sound though.

TheLarSky, I want to see it already!

With windows up. Once the drone gets loud the camera starts making weird noises.

I'm pretty sure I know what you mean by "it" so I'll go ahead and respond -

That makes 2 of us, and the box doesn't even arrive until tomorrow! Fingers crossed I can find a lift and install it before we meet on the 8th, eh?
