Suggestions?
2005 5AT G Coupe w/31K miles.
motor/exhaust mods:
- UR underdrive pulley set
- Z Tube
- JWT Popcharger
- Crawford V5 plenum
- DC ceramic headers
- Crawford cats
- JIC Y-pipe
- Fuji exhaust
- AAM spec ECU flash
- TurboXS U-Tech
- Grounding Gear
eventually going with Vortech once car is out of warranty, hence the reason for the headers and U-Tech.
looking for as much simple bolt on power I can get out of the car. I know I am running out of options. cams are out due to the install time and cost versus power given.
anyone have any thoughts on the following mods I am considering to squeeze a few more HP out of the VQ:
- resonated test pipes - any issues with sound, smell, CEL's
- MREV2 - will this work on non rev-up for a few HP
- Iso-Thermal Aramid gasket - not copper
- Cosworth plenum - does this make any power for N/A applications
it has been 2 years since I have done any mods and had my last dyno. looking to get some more HP before car is out of warranty and I start saving for the Vortech.
any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks.

If I were you, I sell your exhaust and get the Motordyne exhaust. Thats gonna help for sure. The motordyne MREV2 is a beneficial piece for sure. I noticed a good low/mid range. I think its essential for cars with headers. It will replace a little more low end power you lost initially with the DC headers. You can keep the copper iso-thermal and install the coolant control valve.
I like the DCE throttle body spacer. I know its a hugely debated mod.
I'd also consider changing your intake around some...the engine is very picky with intake temperatures. Wrap it with some heat wrap. That metal velocity stack absorbs heat and makes things hot.
I am using the JWT popcharger filter with the Stillen airbox...i have it all heat wrapped. My intake temps are less than 5* off of the stock airbox with the added benefit that the intake system can give you.

+1 on the valve body upgrade kit, but I wouldn't get 3.9 or 4.12 gears if you plan on going FI. I would go with 3.5 or 3.7. Here's a good thread for gears and FI.

thanks for the heads up on the Transgo kit. was going to do the Stillen once I had Vortech installed, but this sounds like better option. will look into this after Vortech.
anyone think the MREV2 is worthwhile? spoke with Tony @ MD and this should provide some gains even though I have a non rev-up. with the core exchange it is not that expensive.

damn, no other ideas?
guess it is test pipes, FD gears - not sure which gears would need...if any, since my car has sport package LSD and VB...to be installed with Vortech.
just purchased MD MREV2 w/Iso Thermal Upgrade and will post before and after dynos once installed.
any recommendations for test pipes based on the exhaust system I have listed in OP. resonated for sure.
