n00b to modding - intake

So its my first real mod besides my drop in K & N filter but that really doesnt count. I just got a JWT pop charger, and it comes with the filter, the heat shield, the bracket that holds the filter in place, and the bolts which connect the filter to the MAF, and the bolt for the bracket. I read a DIY on it and it looks like im fine, but i just wanna make sure I its everything i need.

Also...to re-oil and clean the intake, can i use a K & N recharger kit? I dont know if that will oil it up and clean it or just clean it.

I appreciate the advice guys...

Sounds like you've got everything on the right track.. yes the K & N recharger kit will oil it up, just use a compressed air hose to clean out the dirt/grim/crap out of the filter, then use the kit to clean it.. let it sit overnight before you put it in again.

DON'T USE COMPRESSED AIR

It destroys the fibers in the filter, it will never filter the same after using compressed air to blow the junk out.

What you need to do to clean it is get a bucket full of club soda and oxy clean or some kind of grease and gunk cleaner (if you use simple green water it down) I use club soda and oxy clean. Then you need to let it air dry, which is why most guys have two filters. So they don't have any downtime while cleaning it. Or just buy a crappy one to run for a day while it's drying.

K&N recharge kit might actually say don't clean the filter with air right on the box, I know Green and Amsoils do.

Its not like instantly your engine explodes or anything but if you're using an aftermarket filter then why make it perform less than what it should.

With some filters you can use the compressed air method, but not the oiled filters. I have the R2C intake and they recommend compressed air.

Very happy with it BTW.....

i'm fairly certain with a cotton oil-able filter the pressure from the air hose displaces the fibers and creates holes. even cleaning a different filter that isn't oilable, i wouldn't use air for the same reason. just scrub. i really don't think that it has anything to do with the oil itself, so much as the power of the air.

4DGS is right, no compressed air with an Oiled filter

Also, The K&N oil is red, I dont know how that would react with the blue JWT filter

I used K&N oil last time I cleaned my PC, the red just makes the filter look dull.

I use the AEM dryflow filters, you soak and wash them out. I always did something like that with my old K&N's.
