Question about my exhaust

So I was under my car (on a lift) today and I swear that it looks like my X has a HR Y pipe, the two sides are split very far apart almost till my mid pipe. Any other X owners see this or am I imagining it?

Another question is was size diameters are the HR Y pipe compared to the sedans? Same question with the mid pipe (obviously the coupe mid pipe doesn't have the ginormous resonator). Thanks in advance

Yes I inspected my 06 G35x and it appears that I have the HR Y pipe with elongated pipes with flex tubes before they start bending into a single pipe.

yeaa deff post a pic

The long tubes on an HR y-pipe are 13 inches long and the DE y-pipe are 5 inches long. HR y-pipe has piping diameter of 2.5" and the DE y-pipe is 2.35"

I have an HR Y-Pipe on my X and the stock Y-pipe does appear to be the same. I haven't bothered measuring the width of the openings, but the stock pipe does not have the big, knobby harmonic dampeners that the HR does, and it definitely doesn't sound the same.

Do you think that infiniti had to design them like that for clearance for the transfer case

Yes my 06 G35x also has exactly the same setup as Mustang5L5 and all my exhaust components are OEM. It looks exactly as 350z HR Y pipe as DaveB pointed out: https://g35driver.com/forums/3449618-post1.html Not sure if there's a difference diameter wise. I wonder if nissan engineers purposely used this Y-pipe design for added performance only on the X to compensate for added weight.

I'm not so sure. In Dave's pic, the bends aft of the flex pipe look different. The HR bends a little, has a straight section, then bends again. The one pictured here seems to have a single, sharper bend closer to the Y, but it's a little hard to tell from the pic angle. More gradual bends = better flow, all else being equal. I think the pipes on the X's are shaped differently for clearance, as squab says.

After seeing the picture in that post, i printed it out and went out to my car. Externally it looks identical to the HR pipe in that picture.

As for why? Who knows. It could be for clearance of the Xfer case, or it could be for a little more low end grunt perhaps?

WHat does a regular 5AT RWD pipe look like? Is there a HP change for those guys to swap an HR pipe on?

That's what happens when you drive an X in the snow in the northeast. Amazingly, thats really the only rusted part on the underside...for now

the reason why you're thinking like this because alot of user here have 2wd.
barely anyone has a g35x.
i became aware of mines decades ago. lol <----over exaggerating
i bought after market y-pipe and tried to mount it on, and it wouldnt fit, so i forced it. lol <---- dumb of me...
we have AWD! meaning everything is a PITA for parts and installing.
y-pipe, alot of them u have to get custom welded.
cats, u have to get custom also.
u cant just throw one on, because i tried and the driver side fits, but the passenger side doesnt, i had to get it chopped, rotated, chop again, rotate and then weld.
but after all, it sound totally different from a 2wd.
..............we have 2 diffs.... and remember when purchasing anything, ask if it will work for the awd, if they say yes, they're BULLSH!TT!NG
