Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
After much consideration and research, I just ordered the Coupe mid-pipe for my G35's stock exhaust system. I almost got in on the GB for the TD Y pipe, but I figured for about the same cost, I will try the Coupe mid-pipe first since many people have recommended this mod in the past.
I am not looking for huge HP gains, just a better exhaust note (more similar to our '03 FX35 and maybe a bit more power (without sacrificing any low-end torque). I just didn't feel that spending $700 or more for a new cat-back exhust sytem was worth it for me on my G35 Sedan, although I've heard good things about the Borla, Stillen, etc. So, for about $300 for the Coupe mid-pipe shipped and installed ($235 + shipping from PerformanceNissanParts.com + installation), I think this might make me smile more when I drive my G35. ;-) The Y pipe could be next, unless I get what I'm looking for with just the Coupe midpipe (which is funny since adding the Y pipe as well would basically add up to a new cat-back exhaust system minus the muffler for about $600 total ;-).
Does anyone currently have just a Coupe mid-pipe on their stock G35 Sedan exhaust???? If so, are you happy with it? Does it give you more of a Coupe or FX35/45 deeper exhaust "rumble" and increase power at all? Thanks.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
I just put the coupe mid -pipe on my sedan. I noticed that it got a little louder but I don't have a stock muffler. I have a spin tech and people seem to like the sound. I don't know about more horse power but I seem to talk myself into believing it does.
The installation was really, less than 20 minutes. I reversed the vehicle on rhino ramps, Remove 4 bolts and pried the rubber mounts off.
I have a 2003.5 auto sedan
Hope to get the y-pipe next...

I have it and its my favorite mod. Don't expect much if anything in the hp dept but the sound is awesome. Subtle, agressive and not loud. You'll love it. Install is a piece of cake. There's alot of other posts on it as well.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
Thanks for your thoughts smcallis and G35Five_O.
smcallis -- I am a bit surprised that you said the Coupe midpipe is your fav mod (although I'm encouraged since I have it coming soon ;-)...what about your Crawford V5 Plenum? Everyone raves about the plenum; they say it has real noticeable gains, and people love them. And the Z tube...well, the Z tube has got to be the best 'bang for your buck' mod there is. ;-) The sound of the Z tube is addictive (although it is limited to WOT over 3,500 rpm)!! ;-) However, I agree that our G35's should have come with the same stock exhaust as the Coupes; still not sure why Infiniti made the Sedan exhaust so lame, and it annoys me that we have to mod it to get a better sound, more like the Coupe and FX35/45. Thanks again for your comments...I'm looking forward to putting on the Coupe midpipe!

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
With all my mods I got 20 hp at the wheels which is roughly a 7 1/2% increase. Yes it is noticeable but not a snap your neck holy **** difference. Plus you only exercise those extra ponies periodically - when you really get after it. The midpipe sound however is there all the time. The Z tube is also good for the sound dept and probably completes the package but again you only really hear it when you're at WOT.
Be sure to let us know what you think when you get it installed.

Will do. It's funny, b/c I love the sound of our FX35, but I love driving my G35 even more; now if I could just have that FX35 sound (or something close anyhow) on my G35...I think that would complete the package! ;-) Thanks again.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
Thanks. Did you add the Coupe midpipe b4 or after the Blitz exhaust? My neighbor has a Honda S2k with a Blitz cat-back exhaust system and I can hear him coming from 3 blocks away...it's definitely loud (but that's an entire dual exhaust cat-back system ;-)...it sounds very cool, but just a bit too loud for me. He loves it, but he told me it's difficult talking/hearing while on the highway ;-)
Others have said that the Coupe mid-pipe alone (with stock exhaust) adds a deeper, throaty rumble (closer to the FX35/45, G35 Coupe, and 350Z)...would you agree? Also, have you felt any difference in the butt dyno? I would think it could add a few HP b/c it is a less restrictive pipe (although you may not actually feel or see the difference). Although I bet it does sound great with the Blitz exhaust, I don't plan on adding a new muffler at this point. Thank you.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
I have been running Z Car Garage's 350 resonator replacement and all it it seems to do change the sound. I was running no res and that was wonderful. The stock muffler at 3200 would open up and you sound just like a 350. The new set up kills the good 350 sound for a low growl. The cabin resonates but not near what it was. All in all for 175 installed a cheap mod but you can do it yourself as Rob's piece is a bolt in replacement for what you had OEM.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
i installed the midpipe before i got the blitz exhaust...and just like you said it gives a nice deep note at the lower rpm range....but if you like the way the fx35 and the coupe sound you have to also get a new muffler....honeslty just with the midpipe i noticed a slight differance in power from about 40 -60 mph....but once i bolted on the new muffler...it just totally opened up the power band and i noticed a huge increase in power....i would guesstimate around 10hp.....and the sound is simply amazing....sounds JUST like the coupe but a tad bit louder...im totally loving it...i would really reccomend you to invest in a new muffler too...you will not regret it....try the HKS or the BLITZ Nur spec....i like the fujitsubo and greddy...but the problem is i wanted the EXACT coupe note....so i had to stick with the coupe midpipe and a less restrictive muffler....once you run the midpipe coupled with a new muffler....the power increase is substantial

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
Thanks, DesiG. I'll keep it in mind. I'm hoping I'll be happy with just the Coupe midpipe though, but I wonder how it would be with the Coupe midpipe and a new Y pipe (like the TD Y pipe)??? I'm waiting for MOTOP (and some others) to post results of that Y pipe after he installs it on his G35 Sedan. Basically, the new Coupe midpipe + a less restrictive Y pipe and muffler = a cat-back exhaust system, right?...damn, I knew I should've just got the Borla cat-back system ;-).
Someone else though said they had the Coupe midpipe on with the HKS muffler and didn't like the drone, so they took off the midpipe and just have the HKS muffler with the stock midpipe now. I have a feeling the Coupe midpipe might just be what I'm looking for; and maybe I'll stop there (for now ;-). Thanks.

I just bought a Titan so there is no cash left to play with the G for a while.

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
That was mbarrad who added the coupe mid-pipe to his HKS
muffler. He said it sounded horrible. Well....he sold his G35
sedan and I bought his HKS muffler. I wish I could have heard
that setup. smcallis bought his coupe mid-pipe and he loves it.
Anyway, I would hate to modify the sedan so that it droned
while crusing, as mbarrad said it did. Be wary!

Re: Coupe Midpipe on G35 Sedan
I have a stock exhaust and will only be replacing my stock midpipe with the less restrictive Coupe midpipe. I think those who complained about a bad drone had the Coupe midpipe with the HKS muffler; from what I've read, those with just the Coupe midpipe, love it. I'll find out next week.
