after market y pipe and mid pipe with stock muffler?

Would an aftermarket Y pipe and Mid pipe beef up the sound out of the stock muffler? Or would the stock muffler still be rather quiet?

Im asking b/c I really like how the stock exhaust sounds when its quiet outside but in traffic or near other cars you cant hear it.

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this or knows where I can listen to a video with this setup.

thanks guys

from my knowledge if you change the y pipe you change the sound of the exhaust. So if you change to an aftermarket y pipe you might lose the stock sound you like. Instead get HFC and/or HR Y pipe.

^It will amplify the OEM sound. Search youtube for examples. Many people with test pipes with OEM muffler.

I suppose this sounds strange but I'm also curious if anyone else has an aftermarket midpipe with the coupe muffler. I have the HR Y-pipe, which isn't quite enough. I suppose I could go with an X02 or something but the look of the stock muffler really is great, probably better than those ebay tips.

there isn't an aftermarket mid-pipe that will bolt up. You best be is to get a coupe mid-pipe if you have a sedan. If you have a coupe, cut out the resonator on the stock mid-pipe and replace it with a straight pipe.

If you like the OEM exhaust look, take a look at the Fujitsubo and Nismo.

^ also greddy makes one now too and my buddy has one on his z and it was really nice. and its very competively priced too.... check the vendor marketplace. but ya my car sounds alot nicer with the y pipe. still deciding whether go order test pipes or hfc this week. i don't have engine management yet so leaning towards the hfc

I'm assuming you have a sedan, but if it helps, I am running Kinetix resonated test pipes and an HR y-pipe with a stock catback on my 2005 coupe (Revup motor). The HR pipe alone made a minor difference in sound (slightly deeper growl, but nothing night and day). But now with the test pipes it really woke it up. It still retains that nice VQ35 warble, but just a bit louder. The resonated test pipes help keep the raspiness down versus a straight pipe.

ah thanks guys.

Are all test pipes equal? I'm talking about test pipes that are just the pipe, no resonator like the megan racing test pipes

Not going to speak to the quality but there is midpipe (coupe designed but mandrel bent with perforated resonator) made my Ztek. Originally found them on ebay. Also it is 3" but the Tanabe midpipe (from their catback system) will bolt up the oem ypipe and oem muffler to either the sedan (03-06) or coupe (03-07).

Sorry for resurectiing an old thread but which aftermarket testpipes, and y pipes bolt up to the stock exhaust without leaving a gap and sounding terrible? And are the hr y-pipes a good option and just running aftermarket test pipes with the stock cat back? I'm just looking for a louder exhaust than stock without being too obnoxiously loud.
