Injen SES replacement?
well, I just had my exhaust installed - I had the Greddy and resonated test-pipes - now I have the Injen and high-flow cats - this exhaust is loud as ****! But it sounds awesome and I have no rasp whatsoever - it sounds like a badass V8 or something... more pure muscle than exotic... I haven't gotten it over 55-60 mph yet, so I don't know what it sounds like on the freeway... I'm also having problems at idle with the exhaust rattling on the crossmember - the weird thing about it is that I have spacers between the body and the crossmember and it still rattles - I guess I'm going to have to get under there and see what I can do to fix it - any suggestions???
This is a question for injen, what exactly have you done to stop the fiberglass blowout issue? From what I have found by cutting my system apart is that the quality of the fiberglass, the way it is packed, and the size of the holes in the perforated pipe all cause this problem. Therefore the problem would both be in the resonators and the mufflers. Replacing the mid section would not fix this.
My replacement SES 1992c primary pipes have been on my car since early November, and I believe the system still blows fiberglass out the tail pipes. The amount of fiberglass is "less" than before, but fiberglass particles are still visible on bumper & trunk. I "don't" know if the fiberglass particles are embedded in the paint from the original problem or if it is from the new pipes. I "do" know that after my washing car, the bumper looks particle free. I personally have given up on trying to solve this problem. I do like the redesign of the flex joints. The fit is better, but I never had the problem of the pipes hitting the crossmember. I have read that some owners had to modify their installment, which I did not.
your best bet is to take it to a muffler shop and cut open the resonators and mufflers and repack with extra coarse SS wool. That is the only thing I found that compensates for the large perforated holes in the resonator pipe. Works fine now. Remember the tighter you pack them, the more heat resistant they will be and less likely you will get blowby.
Yes, the Injen rep. here on the boards is MIA, I pm'ed him about getting the replacement pipes and also emailed injen @ 2 different email addresses listed on their website, no reply. Might have to wait after the holidays...
