Has anyone that has the fiberglass problem with their SES1999c had their system replaced by Injen? I've been in contact for more than a month about getting my system replaced. A sales/marketing person keeps telling me that they are waiting for the container to arrive (Japan?) and clear customs. Probably true. Injen said they will replace the two primary pipes, not the whole system. Of course they will not pay for installation. I'm now wondering if Injen is just giving me "BS" about the replacement. I've been living with the fiberglass blow-out problem for over 7 months. I would appreciate any comments with this problem. Thanks.

What exactly is the problem your having....

I beat on my G alot since I got my exhaust on and never had any problems with it, yet, that I know of. At first I had a HUGE cloud of blueish smoke blow out as soon as I broke 4600 RPMS but was told this was just from the oiling in the pipe. So what is the fiberglass issue?

I gather some of Injen's 1999c exhaust systems (mine included) blow fiberglass out the tail pipes, which covers the rear body. Quality of figberglass used? I noticed this on my black car about a month after installation. I didn't know what the stuff was till I read a thread here months ago. After the smoking & stink was gone the fiberglass blow-out started. Duy Le from Injen was great in helping me with this problem. I'm waiting for my new primary pipes to arrive for installation. I'm sure I will have to go through the same smoking & stink again till the primary pipes are broken in, but hopefully there will be no more fiberglass bits all over my black paint.

I'm not sure if it's fiberglass on my bumper. I got my exhaust 2 months ago. I might just be paranoid but can you tell me exactly what the fiberglass on your bumper looks like? I asked a couple of people already and they said that it was just dust on mine Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

On my car, the tiny fiberglass particles makes the paint look metal flake, which the paint is not. My car is black and in the sun that metal flake look is really noticeable. I also thought is was dirt or dust, but after closer examination I could see the actual fiberglass particles. After washing the car, the flakes would cover my bumber and deck lid within a day. Like I mentioned, I would never figured out that it was the primary pipes blowing the fiberglass unless I read a thread here about that same problem. I guess on a white or silver G the fiberglass would be harder to notice. Hope this help.

I think they are fiberglass particles. How did you go about getting them replaced? I emailed duy at injen and hopefully he'll take care of the problem. Thanks for your help

 

INJEN has been nothing short of great about this! I got my replacements today. Ill be installing them tomorrow. Its so nice to see a company take care of things after the product has been sold!

 

G352NV, I had my replacement exhaust installed the other day. Injen totally redesigned the flex joints with the new primary pipes. Now the driver side pipe off the Cat is "not" almost touching the undercarriage of the car. Great design fix! I'm glad Injen fixed that issue along with the fiberglass problem. The breakin (smoking) of the new primaries only took a few hours. I agree with you about Injen, they were great dealing with this problem.

Thanks for your help in this matter. How long did it take you to get the pipes? How much paperwork was involved with this? I'm also afraid of scratching my bumper. What did you guys do to avod this.? Again thanks a lot for your help.

I'm about to order an Injen exhaust (for change in look if nothing else) - how do I know if I'm getting the updated version or not? are there any old models out there still?

The new design is "only" the primary pipes off the Cats. The flex joints are further down the pipes than the original. The original design had the felx joints very close to the Cats which made the driver side pipe almost touching the frame of the car. Other than internal construction materials (stopped fiberglass blowing out), this is the only way to tell if it is the new design. I highly recommend the updated system. Since the new warranty primary pipes just arrived from Japan about a month ago, I would assume Injen distributors are still selling the original. That would be a question for Injen to answer. im very interested in purchasing an injen exhaust. I was thinking this is the perfect thread to ask this question? How much louder is it than stock, at idle can you hear it? and does it keep the deep hollow tone that makes the car distinct? i do agree that it is the hardest looking exhaust out there, can u see the angles canisters when you stand behind the car or do you have to be looking under it? thx

 

I have tried to contact the Injen rep here on G35driver, but no reply. Any idea where he went. I guess my next step is to contact them directly...
