Exclamation X02 exhaust with test pipes

Hello everyone,

i am kinda getting bored of the exhaust note of the x02. It was good for the last couple of years, but i am thinking its time to switch it up a bit and add some 'oooomph' to it! so if you own an X02/hks clone exhaust and have additional breathing mods (headers, hfc's, or test pipes) please share your experience (positive and negative) for those that have such additional mods with this exhaust, please advise i want to hear what issues i can have down the road. i am particularly interested in learning more about different test pipe setups people have tried with this exhaust. also what is the difference between resonated and unresonated? how does it impact the sound? is one better than the other? should i get used or new?? i am looking for the exhaust to give a deeepp growl!! install of test pipes is easy as taking out the stock cats, and installing the test pipes? do i need to consider anything else? how long does it take to install? any additional info would be helpful!!!

if you have a sound clip that would really help with my decision! Thanks!

I can't really answer your questions but I can go ahead and say that I've heard good about the Megan Racing resonated test pipes v2 or something.

But if you really want to dish out the cash for quality resonted test pipes, ART pipes from Motordyne is the way to go.

X02
Resonated Test Pipes
Magnaflow Resonated x-pipe

Gives you a nice "rumble" sound.

Without the x-pipe, it sounded like complete **** IMHO. The x-pipe made the exhaust sound more subtle and almost silent at cruising speeds on the freeway. The resonated x-pipe also takes away the "metal" rattle sound associated with test pipes.

I installed the x-pipe in place of the x02 h-pipe and resonators for sound and maximum tq. Keep in mind that the x02 h-pipe is almost useless. The h-pipe connection is simply a 1/2" hole connecting the two pipes. Also, the x02 resonators do not last very long. I've had two different x02's and the perforated cores in the resonators on both started to come apart.

I used Magnaflow 14386.

Installation test pipes is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you pre-soak the nuts and bolts with some penetrating lubricant hours before you start. You will also need some long extensions.

Here's an installation video on HFC's. Same procedure for test pipes.

Here's a picture of the useless h-pipe hole in the X02.

As you can see, it's useless. Compare the size of the hole to the size of the actual piping.

Here's a picture of the resonators with less than 2k miles. You can see the perforated cores starting to come apart.

With all that said, the issues above along with rasp, drone and the infamous metal buzzing sound if you have test pipes or HFC's can be simply cured with a Magnaflow resonated x-pipe for less that $90 from performance peddler plus the cost of installation which is a simple job.

I put Megan test Pipes and X02 exhaust on at the same time... so I am not sure what X02 exhaust sounds by itself.. but combined.. All I can say is "LOUD"..

Probably not for everyone, but I like it.

After installing both I also found that you lose some low end power, but mid-range and high-end is much better.

Just finally got my exhaust fitment fixed yesterday... right tip was center, but to high and touching bumper, left tip was right of center and to high and touching bumper...

Started to burn/melt my bumper underneath (can't see it unless you get under the car)... Mad Hatters had to heat up the pipes and bend them to get it to line up correctly. $100 in labor, not to bad.

There are getting me a price on the magnaflow to install in place of the H-pipe.. might have to just buy it online for cheap and pay to have them install it.

Overall.. not a bad setup.. I got the exhaust for $250.. Test pipes for $125.. Magnaflow X pipe will probably be $125 as well... so $500 total won't be to bad.

Well... $500 for parts... Labor extra but thats only because I don't have a place to install myself... I have $300 in labor for install and fixing fitment (Installed one place and they did a bad job, had to pay Mad Hatters to fix it)
