NEW Motordyne M370 Intake Manifold for 3.7L VQ!
NEW Motordyne M370 Intake Manifold for 3.7L VQ!
As many of you on here know, I've been close with Motordyne for many years now. I've always supported their products and testing, and their support of the Nissan / Infiniti Communities.
I just got word that they have officially released their new INTAKE PLENUM for the 3.7L motors! I know that a lot of G37 guys search these boards so I'm posting it up in here as well as on the G37 forums.
Independent testing is underway on these M370 collectors, but the results thus far are promising. I've got a few close friends running these on their cars right now and they all report a very good gain in mid-range torque and overall power throughout the rpm range.
The idea behind this manifold is the same as MD's MREV2. Part of the issue of the 3.7L motors vs the 3.5 HR is higher end hp, but a little loss on torque in the useable range of power. This kit replaces your OEM manifold on your 3.7L VQ and includes all the required hardware etc. This ends up being a VERY easy install, and the best bang for your buck mod for this motor thus far.
No dyno figures are released by MD, but introductory customers who are looking to dyno their vehicles with before and after I believe are getting discounts.
You can email me or pm me for more details regarding this.
I'm posting this up for MD since they've helped me out tons in the past. But I also wanted to point out that I'm very familiar with these products and design so any questions can be sent to me directly as well

Yes it is simply a 215 dollar OEM HR manifold that has the mounting holes drilled out so it will fit the G37. But it does come with stickers to help justify the 700 dollar price tag.
It's an adapted HR manifold yes. But it's not as simple as just re-drilling holes to bolt it up either. Same principles for the most part as the MREV2 for the older 3.5 VQ.
OH AND AN OEM HR MANIFOLD BRAND NEW IS NOT $215 ANYWHERE YOU LOOK BTW, THEY'RE MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THAT.... Just FYI

1- It is that simple. They drill out the holes, put a plate on top, and put in 4 bolts to sandwitch the manifold on. There is no actual modifications to the inside of the plenum at all.
2- Well www.infintipartsusa.com sells the 08 350z HR plenum for 263.60 dollars. I called my local dealership and they said he would give it to me for 250. (So I guess I was 35 dollars off)

I am not at all arguing with any claims about power gains. That part I have no idea. But how do you justify 700 dollars for a 250 dollar part with a plate, 4 bolts, a vacuum tube and acouple stickers?
Especially when the MD pleum spacer for the G35 actually had to be designed, milled, machined and sells for 250 dollars.
They are charging 450 dollars MORE and they didnt actually do anything. Just retrofitted an OEM part from the HR to the VHR. Really all it comes down to is that since the G37 costs more, they charge more. Just like a carbon fiber engine cover for the 350z will cost about 150-200 dollars. A carbon fiber engine cover for the GTR will cost about 500-600 dollars. Is there more work involved or more elaborate? No. Simply because the vehicle costs more, the company will charge more.

Well that is true to an extent... sure the process costs approx the same to make a CF cover for a GTR and a Z. Thing is there are fewer GTRs out there, so less potential sales. So you've now got to split your RD / Setup costs and material costs among a smaller batch of products, hence raising the initial cost of each one made when compared to a Z. That's where the extra money is, it's a simple manufacturing model. If there were as many GTRs out there as Zs, then both in essence, should be pretty equal in price, but that's not the case. That's part of the reason why vehicles such as the GTR which have a smaller production run always cost more than cars that have more volume in production.....
Also, if anyone needs an HR plenum or OEM parts, I have the connections to beat nearly anyone else out there, so pm me!

I fully understand why they are charging more. I am just saying I do not feel it is justifed especially when they are not actually doing anything. It is a simple retrofit of an OEM part. Really all they are providing is a tube, 4 bolts and a plate for 450 dollars. I have seen companies acutally fully design, construct, test, and produce entire manifolds for the G35 (like the SSV) for less than they are charging for a simple retrofit.
Though I can get the HR plenum for 250, I am willing to bet they can get it even cheaper.
