Yeah I did also thing about that. But I figured I would deal with all that After its finished. I am still debating If I should make the whole intake or just an adapter style cold air unit
+1, would take a lot of water going into the filter. I've seen Tim wash his car and his intake filters hot wet, hasn't caused him any problems.

LOL. Yeah thats true.
Just fab up a little rain guard to keep water from going right into the filter and you'll be fine.
My intake puts the filter kinda "out there" and it would throw a "too lean" trouble code if I drove in heavy rain for extended periods where the filter started to get really wet. IDK if that had anything to do with the actual combustion process, or if it was fooling the MAF
Anyway, I fabricated a rainguard when I went to the new bumper which is even MORE open than the old one, and I haven't had the SES light come on ONCE since the rainguard, even in monsoonal conditions.

I would really like to see before and after dyno numbers to see how much it really did. Are you thinking of running a straight aluminum pipe to the throttle body? Or are you thinking of adapting it to the z-tube? Isn't there waterproof filter wraps to help prevent hydro lock? Along with the bypass valve and you can be confident no water will get in.

Well I am not to sure about the water. But If my car is ever submerged that deep I think I might have a Problems. I don't see a Real Big Problem With Design Stillen has the same design for the G37
If you car is a submarine Maybe you should get 1 of these
I am just messing around with you guys. But really I think the AEM or the Filter Wrap would be just fine for those Worried peeps

I need an MAF Adapter to continue on the Project. This way I can make it to where it adapts to the Ztube. But I will be making a Full version Also Maybe even with the MAF sensor on the bottom To hide it away you know.
I like the idea... the only concerns I'd have are; blocking radiator and using a relatively small filter.
Water isnt going to be an issue (especially in So Cal) - except when you wash it... even in rainy areas, I doubt much water will enter (considering the shape and direction of the vanes/bars on the grille).

I like the oem/stillen designs as it's already boxed in and doesn't make the air have to bend around a corner. Also the stillen/jwt units utilize a huge velocity stack and have a 6" filter opening.
