Anybody have a good or bad opinion on a catback Borla exhaust system?

 

I have the borla. It has a very deep sound compared to stock almost making the car quieter until you rev past 3k rpm. As for performance, forget it. It is too minimal. I agree with others who say you only buy exhaust for looks and sound because exhaust systems don't do much on our car compared to cats and plenum. I dyno'd my car (borla exhaust & z-tube) yesterday to get some numbers before I will add some type of high flow cats. Borla exhaust added 2 horsepower (231 now, 229 before) while adding nothing to torque (222.6).

2K4 - 6 spd mt, diamond graphite coupe, z-tube, borla exhaust. Next mod: High flow cats or some type of test pipe.

 

There are other dyno's on this board that show significant gains from exhausts on the 6mt (namely the Stillen exhaust).

On the coupe and 350z that is fairly true (minimal gains form exhaust), but on the sedan the stock exhaust is super restrictive and the gains from the h-pipe or x-pipes is fairly significant.

Remember these aren't cat-backs they're catbacks + half of an exhaust manifold (lower part, primaries to cat)

I love the sound and look of my Borla. I didn't want the big single, coffee can looking tip so the Borla was perfect for me.

 

Stillen was second to Borla in a catback shoot out in San Jose July '03. The Dyno increase for Stillen was 7.1HP and Borla had 8.2, the best of five tested that day.

No problems whatsoever with my Borla, and I love the sound.
