muffler delete on motordyne TDX V2

searched through all the muffler/exhaust threads and have found no answer to my question. I was tinkering around with my exhaust yesterday (motordyne TDX V2, i have a 2007 coupe 5AT) and i decided to start my car with the exhaust unhooked from the y-pipe (no muffler attached just the stock cats and y-pipe). it sounded amazing to me, the exact same as with the full TDX attached just 10 times louder, no rasp at all and still very deep. My question is would it be ok for the engine if I made a custom pipe to clamp in place of the muffler? it would go from the 3" outlet of the y-pipe into 2 pipes and just be a custom muffler delete pipe. and also keeping the stock cats in for now (eventually getting ART pipes) would I see any loss in power or TQ due to less backpressure even though the cats would still be there? Thanks.

Just buy a MD straight pipe attachment and the original shockwave single for the G. Look at my vid of the shockwave I made with Tony from MD on my YouTube denchan36. The shockwave is on Tony's white Z.

I already have the TDX V2 installed so im thinking of just making my own pipe or taking it to an exhaust shop and having them do it. should be done within a few weeks ill post a video and pics of the finished pipe when im done

i personally would not hack up such a beautiful exhaust..i think it sounds great as is...my advice would be to purchase art pipes, that would really bring it alive even more

not going to be hacking it up at all. just simply making a pipe to replace the muffler. going to make it usable with the V-clamps as well so i can remove and put the motordyne muffler back on it if i change my mind about down the road.

Yes, you are going to lose torque. Just recently I had a complete stock exhaust, except I had no resonator on my midpipe. Took off my muffler and it got insanely loud, sounded kinda cool at times, but major loss in torque. Car didn't pick up as quick. Since I know I'd get pulled over for it instantly, I put the stock midpipe back on. Much better, gained some torque back.

I wouldn't do it.

I would assume the muffler is specially designed and strategically placed for maximun tq and hp.

I know you said you don't want ART pipes, but that would be a more logical option for more sound if you decide to sell the exhaust later on.

Do you have the side branch resonators?

If you do decide to hack it up, please post up a picture of the inside Motordyne muffler. Curious to see what muffler they are using.

again not going to hack it up just make a new single pipe to attach to the motordyne xyz that splits into 2 pipes. but ill take a few pictures of the inside of the muffler as best i can. And i AM getting and do want ART pipes just going to be a month or so before I get them, also spoke to Tony @ motordyne and he said of course it will be louder but he said the muffler isnt really restrictive so I wont be losing any back pressure so There shouldn't be any loss in TQ and if anything might even see a small gain in power. After I heard this I am even more determined to make this custom muffler delete pipe and installed

IMO this is the best advice. I can't wrap my head around why you would want to destroy a piece that generated hundreds of hours of R&D to maximize gains, sound, and fitment. If you're dead set on a straight pipe exhaust, just yank the TDX, sell it, and have a muffler shop fab up the new exhaust. I think you'll be dissatisfied with the new sound quickly, so maybe it would be a better idea to keep the TDX so you can put it back on when you realize you fvcked up.

There is a reason Tony used V-band clamps for this exhaust - to make it interchangeable with other types. Get the shockwave section of the exhaust for that and you will have your volume and your sound - all while keeping performance up. I wouldn't try to re-invent the wheel when the option you want already exists
