DIY: Motordyne Tip Extension

Nothing fancy, Really basic.

Materials:
3" Exhaust extensions (two) from any auto store [pepboys, advance auto parts, autozone, etc]

1. Buy: 3" to 3" exhaust pipe extension
They look like something like this but shorter and wider.





2. Get them shorten: Install them and see how much you need to cut. I didnt have the proper saw or tools so took them to a exhaust shop to get cut. Basically took measurements and cut off most of the pipes. Only had a small bit left on both sides.

3. Install them: Best way would be to weld them on your original exhaust outlets. I also added exhaust tape over the extension for extra security.



4. Install your MD tips.




This DIY is really primitive. Im sure you guys can improve and add onto my work.
I've had the extensions for about 5k miles now and have not worried about losing my tips.

Looks nice and with your Chargespeed rear your "really primitive" work can't be seen.

 

It really is hard to see. Getting those pictures with the extensions was pretty annoying. lol

the stuff from local stores are usually steel so they will rust fyi.

 

^ you are right, eventually all steel rust. But the new pipes are galvanized (zinc plated) so take a longer time before rust forms.
