Aftermarket y-pipe on stock exhaust

So I'm getting an aftermarket (ebay) y-pipe from a buddy for dirt cheap. I believe it has a 2.5" inlet and a 3" outlet (will measure when I get it). Looks just like this megan pipe:

I searched and cannot find out if the 3" outlet will bolt directly to my stock mid-pipe, which I think is 2.5 inches. And will it bolt up to the stock cats? Just looking for a little more sound. Will probably get high flow cats and the rest of the exhaust eventually.

It will bolt up just fine, just be prepared for some rasp to develop due to the different piping sizes.

I have FI HFCs. What's a good Y pipe to bolt on stock exhaust? My flex pipes are cracked and need to be replaced.
I might buy a Nismo S tune but its missing the Y pipe anyways.

^I doubt there is really much of a difference in y-pipes. They aren't going to make a lot of power anyway. Just get a stainless one with the right size piping, inlets, etc. If you have the cash buy name brand like motordyne. Keep in mind if you are slammed the y-pipe will more than likely take a beating, so you might not want to pay too much if it's not going to last forever.

Just an update on this. The y-pipe made zero noise difference in the stock exhaust. Maybe just a hair louder, but it was probably in my head. Once I added a full exhaust it became really loud...

For a stock exhaust, you should look into getting an HR style y-pipe. The design is different from the DE y-pipe.

There are lots of positive feed back from these y-pipes. I believe there is a thread floating around with a guy that got the HR y-pipe dynoed compared to the stock DE y-pipe.

As for the Nismo, just check out the market<private<exhaust section and you should find one use for roughly 5-700 hundred.

^this, if you are using stock exhaust go with hr y pipe, not only does it make it a little deeper, its dyno proven to add some power. if you are going to go with nismo s-tune later, id recommend the xyz pipe or you can use that megan pipe as the outlet will be 3" and match up well and will avoid any extra turbulence in the exhaust gasses.

I know megan also makes a 3'' outlet style hr y-pipe that you could be pair up with a nismo.

I used M2 performance 3'' hr y-pipe when I had a nismo.

Im running Megan racing HR style Y pipe along with FI HFCs. It sounds good, barely any rasp just a bit on higher rpm when the car is cold. After that it disappears.

Sound wise, sounds totally stock. Maybe a little louder/deeper.
