Has anyone successfully eliminated the hissing/rasping noise from test pipes without changing their exhaust system too?

I've heard replacing the y pipe can help but I'm not too sure how reputable the source was.

Thanks

Check out this thread:

I don't have much experience with that mod but there is loads of discussion on the subject over in the exhaust forum.

Solution is simple, sell your test pipes to some unsuspecting member looking to do cheap mods to his G and get HFCs or ART pipes! Great sound costs $$ remember you get what you pay for....Gary

Sorry I missed that so ART pipes don't create rasping? Are they pretty easy to install and wouldl they work with a fast intentions exhaust? Do these cause the CEL to come on?

Thanks

AAM HFC's with a M2 Y pipe still rasp a bit, but do it right and your like the Z in F&F 5. It's almost impossible to avoid with HFC's, forget test pipes! Stick with HFC's and even then, be careful because the cheap ones sound too tin can like.

I was worried about that definitely don't want a fart can exhaust. I had previously considered hfc's until I heard reports of them failing around 20-30k miles, can anyone verify this?

Gary, you're a stand-up guy. No need to suggest this.

There has to be high-heat sound-deadening material that can take the rasp out, it's only a vibration right?

http://www.koolmat.com/

Would something like this, in theory, work? Re-read the description, it's sound deadening from the stand point that sound doesn't go THRU it, it doesn't absorb it. There HAS to be a way to absorb the vibration. Does anyone know the frequencies involved at all?

I heard a HKS rep with HFC's and a magnaflow x pipe installed in place of the resonators and it had a deep tone throughout all the gears.

Test pipes eliminate your catalytic converters. For anyone who views this in the future apparently after the Motordyne ART pipes are broken in you will no longer here a rasp. When it comes to installing the ART pipes request that the mechanic cuts off the bolt on the drivers side of the heat shield or else there will be a rattling sound.

Buyers beware though, catalytic deletes are going to be nice and stinky.

Ya my buddy hooked me up with his Berk HFC that he blew with in a couple miles. One of the HFC is missing about half of the honeycomb looking inners and they other is complete but when you shake it in a front to back motion you can feel a slight movement in the honeycomb inners.

Question

1. can this be fixed (not sure if its even worth it)

2. Should I knock out the same amount of honeycomb in the good HFC and just roll with it.(would this create rasp and Cel issues)
