HKS replica exhaust
400 for a new rep and flat sound, cracking issues maybe, gasket issues, ugly tips, fitment issues, OR , buy a nice used brand name for 7-800 and be happy, I know what you are feeling, you want an exhaust and you want one now, but please please please listen- save up a little more and buy a legit used one, it will save you money in the long run, I promise that
I say go for them if you like it, a lot of the issues with the replicas are greatly exaggerated, especially because most of the people who like to talk about the issues have never owned the exhaust themselves. I have, and the minor fitment issues were very easily corrected and I ran the exhaust for over 3 years without a single issue: no leaks, no cracks, no problems with it staying together even being slammed and scrapping it all over the place. I do think adding the magnaflow would be a great idea for both replica or authentic. Never once received anything but high regards for the sound, tips you can change depending on your preference but that is cheap as well. In any case you are walking out the door with an exhaust brand new, much cheaper than authentic and that actually has proof of making gains unlike the authentic.
If you are looking for higher quality and willing to spend more money on an exhaust, I would say go for something of top notch quality and that has proof of giving gains for the price you are spending. Something more along the lines of motordyne's exhaust.

That's a good reply to his situation. Honestly I haven't owned a rep. But I have heard the horror stories. And I see a lot of reps go for sale. And a lot of times in the description. It reads. Only used for a month. Or 500 miles. Etc. Which means they bought it and didn't like it. I also have my personal experience of a lot of tines when I cheap out it costs me more in the end. Op. Its a risk. You may win you may lose. Its Ur choice.

I've also heard the belief that they are crappy and people are always selling them, but when I search the exhaust marketplace for "hks replica or x02" vs "hks authentic", the replicas seem to be up for sale much less often than authentics. Again not necessarily for any particular reason.
If you don't buy the lowest of low brands of the replicas, I think the only risk you have is you not liking the sound. But that is something true of every single exhaust unless you are lucky enough to have someone around you to let you hear it in person. I have seen plenty of people dislike authentic hks, motorodyne, and every other brand of exhaust as well for different reasons. The whole issue of not knowing what it really sounds like or if you will actually like the sound until you buy it is in no way unique to replicas.
See the problem is that a very small number of people post bad impressions and since it's a replica, a large part of the community immediately jumps on it's bad bandwagon without a really accurate picture. It has some minor issues, but nothing like when the real x02's first came out - which most people think of, but when you consider a near high price of $400 new vs things like hks or motordyne which are well into the $1k++ range it is a relatively small tradeoff. Please note - by saying this I don't mean everyone should buy a replica vs other brands, the quality of the top brands is indisputable, but more that if you expect the same quality from $400 as 1.5k+ that is just unrealistic.

Nicely put. Heck u you got me wishing I went rep. Lol. Well almost
Haha I wouldn't, you got a beautiful exhaust that sounds amazing (imo - I hope you like it!), as soon as you pay off the credit card bill just let it be all smiles as you enjoy the new sound!
That is the only downside to the replica exhaust is drone and flat sound. I saw the stories about how the XO2 exhausts were and still decided to buy a replica. Here is what I did before I put it on I coated the whole exhaust except for the mufflers in the high temp clear coat spray paint then installed it. The flat sound comes from the resonators replace it with the magnaflow xpipe I bought mine from performancepeddler probably the cheapest place and you can negotiate the price. I saw a thread on 350z forum where the guy replaced the resonators but left the H pipe (which is actually made better than the actuall HKS) so that is what I did. It gets loud when I want it to, I got rid of the drone and it sounds awesome. I don't know if it added HP or not but as long as it sounds good I don't care. Mine has been installed on my car since the east coast had that big earthquake I was under the car while it happened. I was thinking about putting up an exhaust clip but have been very busy.
I really didn't have any hassle. Thanks to all the forums members that had posted their reviews it made it pretty easy.
What's so great about the real HKS exhaust?
