Can anybody answer me this???

Car is totaled and the insurance claims guy is being cool about giving me a few xtra days to try and replace my after market exhaust setup. My questions are:
1.) Can I replace my Berks cats with test pipes? (Would they care)
2.)Does anyone know if I can put any cheap exhaust on car to replace mine( I'm mean like a different cars cheap exhaust, as i cant find ANY parts for my car that are not a 4 hour trip from me) I believe they don't care if it's actually bolted on the car as my current one is half off already when they saw car.
They already looked at car and gave me a price for it they are just waiting on my ok to take car now..I don't think they can come back at me after issuing the check to me. So just wondering how I can go about this where it's more beneficial to me.

Take off the whole exhaust system if that's what you want and any other parts too. Your car is totaled, not likely anyone will be driving it any time soon...Gary

Gary- that's what I wanted to do but Insurance people are telling me that it will devalue the car and amount they wanted to pay for car....I'm told that if I can replace exhaust and other parts and they will let me keep my aftermarkets. This is due to the fact I still owe 3k left on car so it belongs to my insurance now or technically when I surrender car

Replace the Berks with test pipes, unless it's a high $$ exhaust like Motordyne don't bother...Gary

Yea that's why I was asking to see if insurance would care if it's test pipes as they are off road only purposes. And YES it's a MD shockwave tdxv2 exhaust! Very expensive lol

Are they paying extra for the aftermarket stuff in the totaling? I had a car totaled once. I had just put in a fancy in-the-trunk CD changer (yes was a few years ago now!). They wouldn't pay extra for my loss so I refused to close out the paperwork (they were racking up a wrecker yard bill until they got the car released to them so they could move it to their lot.).

Final deal was I removed the system and they didn't change the payout. They did tell me not to just rip it out but actually remove it.

Ask how much they'd take off the payout if you pulled it off. Make sure you point out it isn't stock. Not like there's a huge junkyard market for aftermarket performance exhausts.

Bottom line, it is all negotiable (until you sign the papers).

Yea I tried negotiating with them but he kept saying gieco doesn't pay xtra for aftermarket stuff! They said they look at it like it's just normal pieces to the car...I haven't finalized anything yet at all..not signed anything. They call to set up a time to pick up car because it's at my house right now, but I haven't responded. It just sucks to me that they would do something like this and I didn't save any oem parts I originally had.

That's what they told me also. I suggest you look up the "make whole" rules.

So how much less are they wanting to pay if you just pull the part?

Go to a junk yard and grab an exhaust off a junker. Toss it in the trunk and be done is another option.

It's the claims adjuster that came to look at car and declared it was totaled is the one I'm dealing with. Haven't met him in person as I was at work when he went to my house to look at vehicle. I also tried looking up "the rules" but had no luck So many people had different stories with this.

Wom- I want to just throw ANY exhaust on it so they can just hopefully assume it's a fitted one. But didn't know if the guy would be cool about it let alone notice at all (kinda want to ask him but don't wanna ruin my chance to keep my exhaust!)

How much are they going to devalue the car? What are the aftermarket parts worth?

If you just took the parts off and told them to come take the car, would they really know? The car's totalled.

I didn't ask how much the de value was as I'm sure I can get more money for the aftermarket parts or just keep them if I can find another G around here which is highly doubtful
