Should I Y-Pipe or no?

My OEM exhaust is finally kicking the bucket. Cats are rattling and I got small leak by the muffler. So I'm on a hunt for a new exhaust system.
After hours of Youtube videos and all kinds of research I compiled a following list of parts.
Fast Intentions resonated test pipes
Motordyne XYZ pipe with resonator
ExoticSpeed RI-T exhaust.

Question regarding the Y pipe.
How much of a performance gain is it? Does it even do anything (besides resonating in XYZ case)?
Should I spend the $ for XYZ pipe or just leave it stock?

And feel free to comment on my potential exhaust setup.

Get an hr y pipe if you can. I just snagged one for close to nothing and it's a 7-9rwhp gain from what I read

Holy crap you've been a member since 05 and you are just now gonna buy one... That's a hell of a lot of research time.

Hey Joker, Exotic Speed exhaust for the $$ is a good deal if you want a y-back system! Fast Intention cats have worked/sounded great for SLICK in the past two years and counting. Anything Motordyne makes for our cars is far better than anyone else's, your idea using his resonated XYZ y-pipe is what I'd do...Gary

We don't have any emission crap here in WA so I did not consider aftermarket cats at all
I'll look in to those cats. If you say they worth the $ I might get cats instead of test pipes.
I know that Motordyne makes a good product, but I could not justify the $$.
I don't track my car, so those 3 extra hp is really not that significant to me.
I just want something that will give G a grown up sound without rasp. Motordyne is just a bit on a rasp side IMO.

Why would you do XYZ pipe? Will it actually be that significant considering it will cost me $400+?

Yep, I'm a late bloomer
I owned my G since 05 and never had an exhaust on it.
I mod slowly, most of my mods were done when G was involved in some kind of accident (4 total). So instead of just replacing parts with OEM I bought aftermarket stuff. Unfortunately exhaust was never damaged and replacement was not justified.
It served me well for past 176k and now once I put a new one on It'll be a new car all over.
That way I keep my passion for the G going and going and going.

If I would have mod everything on the car in first year, I'd probably be bored of it now and ended up either throwing more money in it for more parts, or getting rid of it.
This way I still enjoy the car almost for 10 years.

If you're looking for good sound and not the utmost in performance, I would recommend an hr-ypipe, coupe mid, stock muff and a rev-up air box. That's what I've got and have had several comments that "it sounds good".
Not too loud, no rasp, no drone, but comes alive when you stand on it.
Best of all, it's not that expensive.

I already got plenum spacer and CIA intake.
As I've mentioned my exhaust has gone bad, So I need it replaced, I obviously will not buy used stock cats and will not pay aftermarket money for a new OEM cats.
So the new cats and aftermarket exhaust is the most economical and reasonable way to go.

I'll try one more time Joker, ExoticSpeed exhaust works well for those members who have installed it! HFCs or test pipes, the air we breathe is better with HFCs! I tried ART pipes, always having my windows cracked didn't like the exhaust stench! Since you won't consider XYZ y-pipe due to the cost I'd still install one with less bends and larger diameter than OEM for less restriction...Gary

Not over a 3" megan or beluga. It's only piping brother.

well actually Motordyne has done some extensive dyno testing with the pipes and it turned out that it's not only piping.
Basically based on their info 2.5" Y pipe is the best option, after that 3" exhaust.
Anything less or more than 2.5 on a Ypipe is a no go. They did not dyno out the bends.
