Which engine mods would you go with first and why?

Hey Fellas,

I bought a 2005 IP Coupe (RevUp Manual). Looking to start upgrading very soon. My question to you veterans out there would be the following:

If you had a bone stock 2005 g35- what would you go with first? I'm looking to increase MPG's and get noticeable gains (best bang for buck kind of stuff)

I've been debating the following upgrades:

5/16 or the 1/2 ISO Motordyne Spacer

I have no idea about which CAI I should get. I've heard the RevUp air box / K&N drop in filter is the best choice.

Still need to look into Z tubes..

And most of all, I don't like the clutch engagement point. Too high. Needs to be more centered or closer to the ground. Whatcha think?

Any suggestions to guide me on the right path would be appreciated! Thanks!!

oil catch can! It catches the nasty blow-by ''gases'' from the crank. This gas has oil vapors which makes its way though the pcv value then in to the lower intake.

In a week i had a few drop of oil.

Im kicking myself for not doing this mod sooner

First mod is driver mod, poke around the forum more and do some research.

Since you have a revup engine, you'll learn that the Motordyne spacer will do nothing for you, at all. You can however, swap out your lower intake manifold with a non-revup version (or an MREV2) and combine THAT with the spacer to see some nice "under the curve" torque gains.

A Stillen CAI was my first mod, and that was really just for sound. Intakes don't really do anything for these engines, the bottle neck is in the cats and exhaust. High-flow cats and a quality full cat-back exhaust will really wake her up.

The clutch was a major PITA for me as well, felt like it was an on/off switch with no feedback as to the engagement point. The RJM AFP clutch pedal was hands-down the best mod from a driveability perspective.

Another bang for the buck mod is Hotchkis sway bars, does wonders for handling.

the best mod to start on a bone stock g has and is going to be a lsd without question. The vlsd is 10 years old and worn and will make your car feel like it lags when you open up the throttle.

Don't think it's advantageous to do the lower intake manifold / spacer at the moment then if that's the case. I might as well start with a CAI and a good clutch pedal, or kit. Appreciate it

How does an older vlsd make the car lag when you open up the throttle. I have never heard of this before.

If you get the spacer and the MREV2 manifold you will feel a difference. If you get test pipes the car will sound like garbage, these cars get real raspy when you remove the cats. A CAI won't really do much but you will get a nice sound coming from the intake. Don't bother with the clutch pedal, I thought the same thing when I got my G35. It's not worth it to custom fab up a new slave cylinder, push rod, etc. Nobody offers a kit to redo the slave cylinder. Just get used to it. It took me a while but I can work it pretty good now. These cars do have the worst clutch action ever. The old school cable actuated clutches in older Nissans and Hondas as so much better than the G35.

it doesnt lag. im guessing he was trying to say something else. its all connected through gears, there is no way for it to do this. and the lsd itself doesnt control drive. it only controls where the drive goes.
if you have all your safety crap turned off though you will have one wheel peel.

def do the spacer with the MRev2. You're looking at about 8 hp more with the spacer after 5600rmp

Unless I was going forced induction, the only mod I would do to a motor is an oil catch can. The limited slip differential replacement idea is great, mine wore out long time ago I need to place it.

A worn out vlsd won't apply the torque as quickly as a new on or a locked lsd. When my vlsd was done it would lag when I floored it on a roll. Once I put a 1.5 way in it was night and day
