Oliver Enterprises Exhaust Vents

Hey G35 drivers,

I've been lurking and reading for a long time. And have made a lot of good repairs to my car based on the wealth of info on here. I've been happy with my car, but wanted it to be just a touch louder. Not screaming loud though.

I've heard some exhaust systems on G35's and 350Z / 370Z's. And they look awesome, and sound even better.

But I just don't have the cash to part with on some of those systems. I ran across this youtube video:

I then contacted the guy who sells and / or makes those exhaust parts. He explained that these parts just bolt in, and if I didn't like the sound, they could be removed and go right back to the original exhaust. No permanent changes. Sounded interesting. I asked how much. He said $125 shipped. I was then very intrigued. I can handle $125. He also said I could do the install myself, so there would be no install cost.

I wanted more info and he linked me to some threads. As I understand, he sell them mainly for the big Lexus sedan, the one with the V8. I read a thread on a club lexus forum from the guys who have been buying them and the feedback all sounded good.

So, I gave it a shot. I got the parts quick. He's in GA, I'm in TN. They were easy enough to install, like he said. Here's the verdict.

The sound: While not being as awesome as some of the systems I've heard on G35's and 350Z's, it was right up the alley of what I was looking for. Not too loud, and seemingly just more sound of what the car already has. When I'm just gently rowing through the gears, there's a cool bit of crackle when shifting. My friend's dad is a high up guy with Porsche. His dad always has some cool Porsche. Once his dad took off real fast from his house and his Porsche did some awesome crackling between shifts. This sounds very similar, but not as loud. And there is no drone with this.

The down side, at WOT, it may not be the spine shivering sound I'd like to hear. At all other rpms and cruising, it is what I was looking for. More of the original sound, and no drone. Watch the video. I would say the video doesn't do a 100% comparison of what it's really like while driving. But you get the idea. You guys may have negative opinions, which I could understand it. But I took a chance, and in the end, I feel it was a small amount of money well spent.

Not a fan. The "stock exhaust" rasps out too, so its not stock.

No offense but if you can't afford to upgrade it than leave it stock or do a muffler delete. Those simple mods sound good.

Wouldn't a muffler delete be loud as hell?

Yeah, loud. If you're short on $ and ok with the car smelling like a lawnmower, keep the muffler and buy some test pipes. You'll get a similar sound + some noticeable power.
OR
remove the resonator and clamp in a plain old pipe in it's place. No lawnmower-like smell, perfectly legal & you'll get some added noise on the cheap.

Yeah, ear bleedingly loud, but it still sounds good if you don't give a **** or you're on a track.
I'm not a big fan either, but for $125 if it made you like the car more, I call it a success! Are these things just partial exhaust cutouts? Never heard of em.

Never heard of them...

Cswlightening - These things are not ear bleedingly loud. They're quite nice. Its just more of the original sound. I liked the sound of the stock system. It just wasn't loud enough. No way I would just drop the muffler and listen to ear splitting loud. My neighbors would hate my *** and I would resist going places late at night for all that noise.

They guy that makes these makes them for the big Lexus 4 door LS. Those cars new are like $80k from what I've heard. I read a thread, they all love em. The guy also said they sound way better on the LS because that's what they were designed for. But, heck, it sounds damn good to me, for $125.

He calls them "vents" because it directs a small amount of exhaust away from the car, down toward the ground. Makes sense. We've never heard of them because up to now he's only sold them to the Lexus guys.

Oliver sent me a set of these to test about a year ago, I think my comment was "fastest mod I have ever uninstalled".

It worked out great on the Lexus but the exhaust design difference in the G35 makes a REALLY bad sound, basically it just sounds like your muffler fell off.

Guys used to and still do turn the pipes down facing the ground on american muscle cars. It makes a nice resonated tone.
These are designed for a toyota v8? They're probably not raspy on a larger engine.

So these are a controlled exhaust leak... no thanks! I'd much rather install some cutouts if I were going to do something like this on a budget.

It's easy to make a V8 sound good but our VQs are much harder to get an exhaust which sounds good, is Goldilocks loud, and doesn't drone.

Muffler delete is nothing more than a ghetto mod, it's loud and sounds like ****!

Turn down exhaust causes a rumble that makes it difficult to talk or listen to your tunes! In my younger years I had headers/glass packs and turned down exhaust systems on my Chevys and Pontiac GTOs, my folks front windows would vibrate when I pulled into their driveways waking them up. Ok for American toys, not a good idea for foreign rides!

Not turn downs...

Certainly not everyone is going to agree. And maybe there are issues with other people's stock mufflers ... dunno. But these sound good on my G, and they won't be coming off anytime soon. And these are not like turn down pipes. It's not venting all the exhaust down. Just a small amount. But to each his own.

Don't take the differing opinions personally Big Frank, especially mine . I don't feel like getting knocked the **** out anytime soon. Lots of people like lots of different things. Most love the Motordyne shockwave. I think it sounds a bit tinny, not as much as the vid above, but tinny nonetheless. Then again, some say it sounds better in person than on youtube. Mine sounds a few decibels deeper in person than on the youtube vid below, so bass is lost in the transition. Wrapped Tomei headers, Kinetix high flow cats and an Invidia dual exhaust with the mid-pipes wrapped. If you plan on keeping the G and improving upon it, it's a good choice and you will be better served by saving your $ for some quality components. Good stuff comes up for sale 2nd hand on the cheap pretty frequently. Revving is 2/3rds the way towards the end of the vid below.

Big $ export affair...

No worries mate. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE EXHAUST MODS you guys have done. And lot of other mods too. But for me, I'm in a position where I can't spend that kind of money. I got the G fairly inexpensively. Sure, I could have bought a (well used) Camry or Accord for the same money. But I choose to NOT drive BO-ring. And the G35 has really great lines. And the sound of the exhaust was part of what attracted me to the car in first place. Don't tell the G37 blokes this, but the G35 looks better than the G37.

I had a simple goal, more of what I liked about the car (exhast sound), without the mod being a one way street. Meaning I could simply remove it if I didn't like it (no cutting or welding, very easy on it). I had some "legal trouble" back down under, and had to get far away from that, come up over with you yanks (loving it). So, now I have to export a big hefty note monthly to sort of mop up me mess. I shall be in said export business for a few trips around the big hot one.

Ah, well I gathered roughly 10% of what you said, seeing as I don't speak Australian, but I understand. So, is their a bounty on your head then?
