Truth be told, lesson learned

Trial and error my friends! I bought the Injen CAI set up for my 04 g35 with the hydro-shield and it proved to be garbage, even the slightest bit of moisture (rain) gets around it and it goes in limp mode! Car wouldn’t turn 3k rpm tonite with a little water on it! I think I may take the lower portion off and add a filter to the MAF housing at some point, but I will let things dry out, put back together and drive it to see what it does.

I drove for years with an Injen CAI and never had any issues with moisture, and I never had the water cover over the filter.

I’m not worried about saving a little money, that’s why I took off the oem set up.

Im not sure what the deal was with it not wanting to rev up, I took apart the intake when I got home a couple nights ago and it had a good bit of moisture in it so I let everything dry out and I put it back together last night. I am going to crank it up and drive it tomorrow to see if it acts up, we have had a lot of rain in my area so I don’t want to drive it until it’s dry again. Will post results

Might be worth spraying the maf with some electronic cleaner in case minerals or dirt managed to dry out on there.

You mean MAF cleaner Definitely not random off the shelf contact cleaner unless you are 100% sure it's hexane based.

I had my aftermarket cone filter located in my lower bumper with no inner fender liner for over a year rain snow or shine. Filter was constantly soaked during the rain, frozen over with ice, etc. No problems and I drive my car pretty hard.

It's not there anymore don't worry

I think it’s going to be ok, drove it a few miles yesterday and it ran fine. I think I may pull the bumper off and see if I can configure something large enough around the filter to potentially block water from coming up to it, only problem is that the filter sits in front of the left side bumper opening so it may be pointless. Oh well, I know now to check the weather and just drive my truck if it’s going to rain
