Trying to minimize the famous G35 trumpet exhaust sound
Trying to minimize the famous G35 trumpet exhaust sound
Art Pipes, Circuit Werks resonated y-pipe and Megan exhaust (sedan). Mostly sounds good, no rasp, some drone around 2500-2800 rpm (highway speeds) but not so bad you can't carry on a conversation. The Megan muffler is pretty small so the tips are really long. They don't extend past the bumper but in pictures of the passenger side they look pretty ricey.
Originally I was going to use a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, worked well at reducing drone when I had the Tanabe exhaust. But the Megan muffler is center in/center out so couldn't use one with an offset inlet. Decided to go with the Vibrant stealth back muffler, got it at Summit Racing (we have one about 8-9 miles away and I had a $100 gift card). It's full 3" center in/center out and all the way through and the body is about 4" longer than the Megan. Had a pretty subtle 3" black tip. Definitely an improvement in cruising speed cabin sound. Much less of the tip in throttle boom. Seems to have pretty much eliminated the trumpet sound. Pretty happy so far. I know the smaller black tip might not be everyone's taste but I prefer a low key look anyway.
Before. I had blacked out the muffler, it was too blingy for my tastes

After

Picture of my car for attention.

One thing I will say about the Megan muffler, unlike the one on the Tanabe that was maybe 1 1/2" in diameter internally, the Megan is a full 3" all the way through. It's just so short it can't muffle sound that well.
