Topspeed Header Install Completed!!!!!

FINALLY done....and it only took 8 hours to do. If I had to do it again...i think I'd pay someone to get it done. Overall the headers sound great! It gave my exhaust a little more throatier sound. Iono about the gains but my friend said that he felt that my mid and high gained something. I dont really trust my butt dyno....but thats what he said. These things are never coming off my car....it's just too much of a PITA to do headers.

you should be proud of the 8 hours dude... i had mine done by shop who are experts on the VQ35 and it took them 7 hours to do mine on a lift

do you hear any rasp? b/c i get some but i dunno if it's from the headers, cats, y-pipe, or the combination of all of them

i can't really tell if i have rasp... sometimes, when i get on the throttle, i hear what sounds like a "rattle"... it only happens for a second or two and then is gone, but it bothers me. most of the time it only happens at WOT, but sometimes, if the engine isn't warmed up yet, it'll happen at partial throttle too

it feels like it's coming from my y-pipe (Fujitsubo) although i can't be certain if it's from that or from the combo of the headers (TopSpeed) cats (Crawford) and y-pipe all together.

it was especially noticeable to me when my car was on the dyno and i was standing behind it. i'm gonna put the car on a lift and see if any of the exhaust components are making contact with the frame or something, perhaps from the engine's torque movement... but i doubt it. to me, it sounds more like it's coming from inside the exhaust pipes themselves. any thoughts?

Yeah I hear a rattle too. Not too sure where it's coming from either. I was kinda hoping that getting a new set of cats would help solve that problem but since you have cats and it's doing the same maybe it's not that. All in all i dont really hear the rattle sound unless i have my music down...most of the time my music will block that rattle sound. =)

i had to get another set of headers from top speed. the one on the right (as you look at the car from the front) has a leak inside where the pipes go into the collector. getting the new one put on monday.

how'd you detected that leak? was it something that was apparent by looking at it, or was there exhaust smell that you noticed? topspeed gonna replace the headers right?, because i remember something about their lifetime warranty thing when i was reading up on them.....

it was very audible. it first sounded like an exhaust leak, like somebody didn't seal the gasket right or torque down all of the bolts. so i took it back in. they (the garage)put it on a lift, we looked at it, sure enough, a leak coming from inside the collector, before the flange. called top speed, i had to buy one, get it replaced, and then they said they would honor a refund of the second purchase... nevermind the $100+ it's going to cost for me to get the faulty one replaced. oh well. hope it works. it'll be here friday.

ok, i just installed the 1/2 plenum spacer and was intent on any abnormal sound from the engine bay.......all seems fine.......sounds like you just got an defective one.......yeah, it sucks to have go through the hassle of replacing headers, even if it's only one side...........good luck......

xstarpro, please keep me updated on this... i never would have thought that it was the stock muffler (perhaps it breaks down b/c of the added flow from the rest of the mods?)

if it is in fact the muffler, i'll be one happy camper if, when i replace that **** with something aftermarket and the rattle disappears
