The Mechanic I Spoke With Said The Car Will Loose Midrange Power When The Cut Outs Are Open Because This Car Needs Some Back Pressure. It Will Also Show Decreased Hp DuE TO Turbulence When They Are Closed. Feedback Anybody?

Nomod... yes, that is what about 75% of the people said when I started looking into these. So instead of listening to people who have not done it and are speaking from expected results, I did it and am documenting real world results.

Sorry, but I have an issue with authority, so when someone tells me not to do something and they have not tried it... Well, I gotta try it, especially when they say "NOT FOR A SEDAN!!"

(caveat: as long as I walk away with all my toes, fingers, and good looks -- & don't detonate my engine.)

So the next step here will be to run a few dynos. Remember, I don't think this will be a viable NA mod. I only felt the power in the upper 2-3 & 3 shift range, and I finish my 1/4mile in 3rd. I am only going forward with this to provide some groundwork testing for those with FI and are considering this mod. On the other hand, I have yet to try (do to the current location of my open/close switch) a 1/4 mile run where I open the cutouts after my 1-2 shift. What will we see then?? Unless you have cutouts and have tried it, don't answer. I'll get back to you soon!

Cheers, Ted

I wonder if I could wire it to a window switch and program it to open above say 3500 RPMs.

I wonder if your car is interpreting the extra engine noise as "knock" and retarding timing?

Racing domestics some years ago, I was bracket racing against a rail dragster. For those unfamiliar with the sport, you basically run as close to a predicted time as you can to win. You never know who will line up next to you, and this was a classic case of that.

With a several second head start (my car being understandibly slower), I was well down the track when the rail car came thundering up behind me. All of a sudden, it felt like the parachute had been pulled.....my car just "layed down" in dragspeak.

A quick datalog review showed 19 degrees of timing being pulled at around the 1000' mark.....about the same time I could hear the other car. My car "heard" the open-header car and triggered the knock sensor from THE OTHER LANE!!!

Hey all... well, once again I was forced to put the car up for a few weeks as I traveled on business. Haven;t had time to do much on this little project.

I don't get hassled by cops cuz I don't romp on it much on the streets (OK, maybe coming back from Vegas just a little)...and I don't run the cut-outs EVER on the street. Unfortunately, I ran out of cam battery when I was borrowing Clints camera for drag racing so couldn't get any flybys.

Clint, if you are up for it, let me know

Gonna get some dyno's done soon. Then will probably find someone with a Stillen exhaust and FI that wants to try them on and dyno.

Just really busy with work right now!

Cheers, Ted

hey ted i wanted to get them on my car after driving my friends lexus is300 with the e-cutouts, and yes they do lose hp down low but once ur going and are gettin enough air in ur engine, its a wrap! ur outt, i've been driving that lil is300 for sometime now, even racing his car for him and the other night when i drove it i noticed that it got alot faster with the exaust cutouts. good luck with everything, and btw how much was the install? i think i may got with the quicktime if i actually get them! btw mount the switch inside the car my friend has a toggle switch mounted somewhere by the hood pop-er, just a suggestion so u dont have to go outside the car to turn it off
