Y-Pipe!

How good is the Stock Y-pipe. I'm about to get Greddy SP2 Exhausts. I was juust wondering how good is our stock Y-Pipe.

Good question. I think it is pretty good. I went from a true dual exhaust (Injen) which totally eliminates the y-pipe back to my stock exhaust and felt little to no change in the performance. I recently added headers and cats and the performance is better than it was with the exhaust and my stock exhaust sounds absolutely sexy now. Its my OPINION that exhausts for our cars in N/A form are sound mods only and arent worth it in the dollar to horsepower ratio. You can spend the same amount for headers and cats as you would exhaust and get more performance.

There has certainly been a LOT of discussion on our y-pipes. If you look at the images of OEM y-pipes, you'll see a lot of extraneious curves and crush bends. Aftermarket models are mandrel bent and have a smoothed out design. While I concur that HP gains from exhaust mods are modest, they are not non-existent. Some of the aftermarket y-pipes boast dynos to prove HP gains (for what that's worth). The y-pipe itself will not change the exhaust note very much at all. However, logic dictates that, with a smoother design, you should have a more freely flowing exhaust, which should lead to some sort of HP gain.

In my opinion, if you're spending the coin for the GReddy, you may as well also drop the extra bucks to get a new y-pipe. You may not get much HP gain from exhust mods on a NA engine, but at least you'll be doing all you can.

Our stock y-pipe sucks, it's the worst part of the system next to the cats. The stock exhaust is actually pretty good, I only upgraded to the Fuji because of the sound and slight weight savings.

I went with the Unlimited Tuning ypipe and have been very happy, but most any decent quality y-pipe should work just as well.
