Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems
I, along with many others, attended the Stillen 350Z - G35 Coupe Day.
I met many interesting people, but tended to talk mostly with other sedan owners. Many felt, as I do, that we're being left out of the aftermarket development process. (It's fortunate that some of the coupe equipment will fit the sedan, otherwise we'd be totally out of the loop.)
I talked at length with Steve Millen and Adam Hume about this problem and specifically the lack of a catback exhaust system and supercharger for the sedan. (They both noted that there hasn't been much interest by sedan owners.) Adam wrote down all of our comments and concerns.
While there, I took many pictures of the G35 Coupe and Sedan's stock exhaust systems, as well as Stillen's catback dual exhaust system and made the folowing observations;
1 - Stillen's catback system is similar to Borlas;
2 - Stillen incorporates an X-section in the headpipe and two separate transverse mufflers. (The difference in the 350Z and the G35 Coupe systems is two 10-12" extender pipes to make up for the difference in the coupes wheelbase.)
3 - Borla 350Z system uses an H-section in the headpipe and what appears to be a single transverse muffler.
4 - Stillen's system for the G35 Coupe will fit the sedan from the cat flanges to the muffler flanges. Therefore 75-85% of the R&D is already done for a sedan system. (As with Borla's system.)
Late in the day I cornered Steve Millen and told/showed him of my exhaust system findings. He committed to looking into it and commented on the fact that two of his people own G35 Sedans, so they wouldn't need at test car.
What we sedan owners need to do. Call/e-mail Stillen and let them know that you are interested in buying a catback system and other items for your sedan.
Call Borla and do the same.

DaveO,
A catback Stillen would be cool! I had a guy look at my exhaust from ultimaeZ in Streamwood, IL. He said there's more than enough room to do a dual exhaust for the sedan with both pipes coming out the back on the left side still! I'd love to see the sedan with quad pipes like the new Maxima.
Perhaps someday...

Also MB ML350!

DaveO, Thanks for doing the foot work. I will email them with a few questions along the same lines. Borla does not intrest me but I will do it for other who have to have a system from them.

With the use of an X pipe do the systems have any O2 sensor issues? I would think it has been worked out but it depends where the X pipe is in the system.

If you don't want tips on both sides tell the muffler shop they can put an extension on to get them at both sides.

Re: Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems
The coupe's transverse muffler will not fit the sedan due to the sedan's spare tire well.
The coupe's y-pipe (head-pipe) and mid pipes with resonators (pre-mufflers) will fit the sedan.
Two high performance mufflers would be installed in parallel.
One on the drivers side in the factory location. The second muffler, heat shield and hangers would be installed on the opposite (passengers) side.
The side facia would need to be cut out for the new passenger side muffler's exhaust tip clearance.

Re: Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems
Based on the limited response to this post... there's only a few of us sedan owners that would buy a dual catback exhaust system from Stillen or Borla.
Am I right?
Hopefully there's more interest than shown by sedan owners to date.
If you're a sedan owner who would be interested, please contact Stillen and Borla and let us know by adding to this thread.
Thanks!

Re: Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems
I finally had a chance to look under the plastic cover that's on the opposite corner of my sedan's muffler.
Bad news! Infiniti mounted the fuel vapor canister in the location where the passenger side muffler was to be installed. And I didn't see a good place to relocate it.
Where is this canister installed on the coupe?
Are we back to a single pipe/single muffler exhaust system for the sedan?
The coupe's single housing tranverse mounted muffler has an inlet and exhaust on each end as Ted has described.
Does anyone make a dual high performance muffler in a single housing with both inlets on one end and both exhausts on the other?

Hi DaveO
I think you may have mis-interpreted the positioning of the muffler I just installed. It is a dual inlet at one end and a dual outlet at the opposite end as you were describing and inquiring of. This muffler could go in the rear of the axle transversely mounted but then you would have multiple bends to make in the pipes. I mounted it neatly in the well below the driveshaft just about 20 inches ahead of the axle at the rear of the muffler. In this position, the 2.5 inch pipes off the cat run almost straight back the dual inlets at the front of the muffler. With this install position the function of an X pipe is accomplished without having extra joins for a separate Xpipe. I almost mounted it transversely but the internal X pipe design was explained to me by the maganaflow people so I mounted it forward to utilize this feature. It sounds very good and beleive me, I am fussy about sound and have torn off many sets of brand new mufflers to get the RIGHT sound. I highly recomend maganaflow in this particular application.
I want to dyno the car soon to see if what I feel in acceleration improvement is true. It feels very quick to rev and hits the rev limiter with ease while spinning the 275/40/18 pilots I upgraded too, all the way into second gear if desired.
Pics to follow DaveO.
Have a great day!

Re: Sedan Owners - Catback Exhaust Systems
Steve Millen and Adam Hume have followed through on our comments!
I called Adam this morning to order an HKS twin tip muffler for my G35 Sedan.
He called back... "Are you sure?" "I thought you wanted a dual catback system."
It turns out that Stillen has built a true dual exhaust prototype for our G35 Sedans.
The system is very similar to the Stillen catback system for the G35 Coupe/350Z. It incorporates the Sillen headpipe and dual midpipes with resonators. The difference is the twin mufflers are located in the stock Sedan muffler's location.
They're in the process of working out a few details. Then, they'll put it on the dyno to make sure it will add horsepower.
In case you hadn't guessed, I've canceled the HKS Muffler order. I'm going to wait a little longer for the Stillen Catback System.
